Nerf Darts and Dodgeball Day — City staff will organize Nerf Blaster activities: range, obstacle courses, team games, and free for alls. Participants should bring their own blaster, and park and rec will supply regular Nerf darts and eye protection. After a quick snack, the day will end with dodgeball contests. This program is for kids ages 7-11 and will be located at the Watertown Senior and Community Center Fitness Room on Feb. 21 from 1-4 p.m. Fee is $15 per participant. Youth archery instruction — The department, in conjunction with the Watertown Archery Club and the Tom Theder Memorial is offering archery instruction to boys and girls ages 8 through 18. A number of certified instructors will offer a 6-week session of classes on Tuesday evenings beginning March 10. All necessary equipment will be provided. Little Dunkers Basketball — An instructional basketball program for boys and girls who are currently enrolled in 5K through Grade 4 will be held on Saturday mornings beginning Feb. 29 at Webster School Gym. Instruction will stress basic skills and fundamentals of the game. Players will have ample opportunity to practice new-found skills and perfect their talents on scaled-down equipment designed just for this program. The fee is $30 for city residents and $45 for those residing outside the city limits. Pre-registration by Feb. 24 is required for this program. Lil Kickers 4K Soccer Program — The department is currently accepting registration for the spring soccer program targeting boys and girls eligible for 4 year old Kindergarten. A child must have reached the age of 4 by Sept. 1, 2019. This program will be a combination of instruction and scrimmaging and be held on Saturday mornings beginning April 18, 25, May 2, and 9, and Thursday evenings April 23 and May 7, 2020. Spring Soccer Registration — Youth soccer registration is now underway for the spring season held on Saturday mornings beginning April 18, 25, May 2, and 9, and Thursday evenings April 23 and May 7. Boys and girls currently enrolled in 5-year-old kindergarten through grade 8 are eligible. The micro soccer format will be used that incorporates small sided teams. Attempts will be made to keep teams together from the fall program. The registration deadline is March 16. A late fee will be added to the cost after March 16. Youth Baseball/Girls Fastpitch Softball Registration — Watertown Parks & Recreation Department provides kids ages 5-14 the opportunity to participate in summer baseball and girls fast pitch softball. Family Puzzle Contest — It’ll be a race for families to finish a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle. Top prize is a 2020 Watertown Aquatic Center family pool pass. There also will be additional prizes awarded and families get to keep the puzzle. Families can consist of five family members, with no more than three adults. The contest will take place on Feb. 21, beginning at 6 p.m. Cost is $15 per city resident family and $22.50 per non-city resident. Contestants must register by Monday, Feb. 17 to be eligible. Free open gym and pickleball — Open gym basketball/pickleball is for people high school age and older. It will be held on Wednesdays, through March 18 at the Watertown High School gymnasium. The gym is open on Wednesdays from 7:30-9 p.m. Shower facilities are not available. One must change from street shoes to athletic shoes prior to entering the gym.
American Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Course with Optional Child & Infant CPR and First Aid — Start a babysitting business on the right foot by learning how to keep yourself and others safe, how to handle behavior issues, playtime and activity options, basic child care needs including diapering and feeding and more. In the extended course option, a participant can also learn American Red Cross First Aid and Child and Infant CPR and receive two-year certifications. This class is for boys and girls ages 11-15. Class for the Babysitter’s Training portion of the course is Mondays, Feb. 17, 24 and March 2 from 4-7 p.m. (bring a snack, or vending machine is also available) – cost is $70. Classes for Babysitter’s Training Plus Child & Infant CPR and First Aid are Mondays, Feb. 17, 24, March 2 from 4-7 p.m. and March 9 from 4-7:30 p.m. (bring a snack, or vending machine is also available) – cost is $105. Pool passes — Get 2020 pool season passes now. The indoor pool pass and the combination pass (valid at both pools) runs through Dec. 31. The Aquatic Center pass runs from May 30-Aug. 23. Forms are now available at the Park & Recreation Department Office, indoor pool or online at www.ci.watertown.wi.us. Individual pool passes may be purchased at the Park & Recreation Department Office or online at https://watertownwi.recdesk.com. Family pool passes may be purchased at the Park & Recreation Department Office. Pool passes are not sold at the pools.
Lifeguard class — Registration is currently being accepted and all registration materials including prerequisite requirements are available at the office and online. Participants must be 15 by the completion of this class. Class dates and times are: Fridays, Feb. 21 and 28 from 4-9 p.m.; Saturdays, Feb. 22 and 29 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sundays, Feb. 23 and March 1 from 12-5 p.m., plus additional independent coursework is done online outside of class time. Fee is $200. Grants are available. Contact the office for details. The required manual for the course is available online, but if a print copy is desired, there is a $40 fee.
