Rime time

Earlier in the week, the area got a lacy coating of hoarfrost. Then on Wednesday, weather conditions combined to create rime ice. Hoarfrost tends to be feathery, rime ice more spiky. Rime is formed by vapor first condensing to liquid droplets and then attaching to a surface, while hoarfrost is created via direct deposit from water vapor to ice. This is rime ice on a bush in a Watertown yard.
