The Watertown school board will welcome one new member after both incumbents running for a seat on the board were re-elected Tuesday.

Incumbents Steve Kauffeld and Ron Buchanan were re-elected along with newcomer Paul Van Den Langenberg.

The unofficial results show:

-- Steve Kauffeld 5,307

-- Ron Buchanan 4,609

-- Paul Van Den Langenberg 3,981

-- Fred Jandt 3,651

Kauffeld was first elected to the school board in 2013. He is a Watertown High School graduate and is retired. Kauffeld is president of the Izaak Walton League.

Buchanan was first elected to the board 21 years ago. This was his eighth election.

"I feel pretty good about it. We'll miss Kate (Lapin), but we will have a new member and that will work OK. I think a lot of people recognize the things that have been done by the board and I think the public appreciates that. Everything is up to date and in very good shape, and it was done without raising taxes," he said. "I sincerely appreciate the fact that I've been elected and look forward to another term."

Van Den Langenberg has lived in the Watertown area for 13 years and is a retired educator.

"I would like to thank God that he put me in a position to be a member of the school board and serve the community."

Van Den Langenberg also thanked his wife Debbie and all the people that allowed him to put up yard signs on their property and voting for him. "I look forward to the opportunity and working with a really good team of people."

Kauffeld could not be reached for comment today.
