Dale and Cheryl Henning of Watertown are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Dale and the former Cheryl Schwanke were married June 8, 1968, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Watertown by the late Rev. Myron Schwanke, Cheryl's brother. Attendants were Sandra Schultz of Green Bay, Cathy Matz of Watertown, Sharon Blakely of Arizona, JoAnn Wildes of Watertown, Richard Henning of Moore, Oklahoma, Terry Triana of Watertown, Dennis Schroeder of DeKalb, Illinois, and the late John Schultz.
Dale was a senior at Watertown High School when he asked Cheryl to her junior prom in 1966. They were high school sweethearts after that.
Dale and Cheryl celebrated their anniversary early in Las Vegas. They enjoyed the 550 foot tall High Roller Wheel, which currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest observation wheel.
The couple have three children, Wendy (Scott) Kaufmann of Watertown, Daniel (Amy) Henning of Worth, Illinois, and Brenda (Brian) Horvath of Watertown, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.
Both are retired. Dale retired in 1998 from the Watertown Police Department. In 2013, Cheryl retired as an American Family Insurance agent.
When asked what it takes to maintain a strong marriage, the couple say that faith, family and friends are important.
