NEOSHO — Dave Rosser threw eight solid innings and rode early run support to earn the decision in Neosho’s 5-1 Rock River League victory over the Johnson Creek Pioneers on Sunday at Village Park.
Neosho (4-1 RRL) put two-run rallies in the first and third innings and led throughout.
Brandon Egnarski reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the first and Austin Gellar reached on a bunt single to put runners at the corners. Matt Beyer hit a sacrifice fly and Brent Young hit into an RBI fielder’s choice to make it 2-0.
In the third inning, the Rockets doubled their lead when Beyer hit a one-out double, Robby Proehl drew a two-out walk, Alex Lawrence hit an RBI single and Jake Savana reached on an error.
Lawrence singled again in the fifth and scored on Egnarski’s RBI double to center.
Rosser allowed one run in the seventh on opposing starter Cameron Walling’s RBI single, which drove in Chris Donaldson after he led off the inning with a double. Rosser allowed five hits, struck out two and walked one.
Walling took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks over six innings for Johnson Creek (1-3).
Gellar pitched a scoreless ninth in relief for Neosho.
The Rockets travel to face league-leading Hustisford on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
