Late rallies carry Canners past Mudcats

ASHIPPUN -- The Clyman Canners broke a 1-1 tie through seven innings with four-run rallies in the final two innings to defeat the Ashippun Mudcats 9-1 in a Rock River League baseball game on Saturday.

Tony Schmitt hit a two-run double in the eighth and an RBI single in the ninth for the Canners.

Nick Schmitt also drove in a pair of runs over the final two innings. Clint Rose collected four of the team's 11 hits and added an RBI.

John Elgersma started for Clyman and went seven innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits with 15 strikeouts and four walks.

Jeff Zielke picked up the win in two scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit while striking out three.

Matt Leslie started for Ashippun and threw seven strong innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts and five walks. Jack Kraemer pitched the eighth and took the loss in relief. Adam Gross pitched the ninth.
