Clyman posts 2-0 mark to start playoffs

HUSTISFORD — Charles Davis pitched a complete-game 3-hitter and the second-seeded Clyman Canners slugged three home runs to beat the top-seeded Hustisford Astros 5-1 in a Rock River League Southern Division playoff game on Sunday at Firemen’s Park in Hustisford.

Davis struck out seven, walked six and allowed one earned.

Clyman’s Brock Vredeveld led off the game with a double before scoring on an error. Ryan Kaul hit a solo home run in the third and Tony Schmitt hit a 1-out, 2-run homer in the fourth, pushing the lead to 4-0.

After the Astros’ Jami Kaul hit a home run in the bottom of the fourth, Nick Schmitt started the fifth with a solo shot to bring Clyman’s lead back to four at 5-1.

Hustisford starter Austin Massey gave up 11 hits, four earned and struck out one over nine innings.

The Canners’ Clint Rose, Nick Lenzendorf and Ryan Kaul all notched multi-hit games.

Tanner Galeazzi was 2-for-3 for Hustisford.

Clyman moves to 2-0 in the Rock River League playoffs while Hustisford sits at 1-1 in the double-elimination tournament.

NEOSHO — In other action Sunday, the third-seeded and host Neosho Rockets staved off elimination by topping the fourth-seeded Milton Raptors 7-4.

The Rockets are now 1-1 while the Raptors fell to 0-2 and were eliminated.
