Sabercats defeat Bob Jones University to reach semifinals

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Sophomore forward Jacklyn Simpson tied her career-best point mark with 21 and the fourth-seeded Maranatha Baptist University women’s basketball team defeated fifth-seeded Bob Jones University 75-49 in a National Christian College Athletic Assocation national quarterfinal game on Thursday.

Junior forward Kelsey Johnson and freshman point guard Callie Morrison each contributed 18 points on three made 3-pointers.

The Sabercats (18-6) led by 11 points at halftime and are now winners of 13 straight games.

Maranatha held Bob Jones (13-16) to 3-for-28 shooting from beyond the arc.

Junior guard Karley Johnson added nine for the Sabercats.

Bob Jones’ Delaney Edwards led all scorers with 22 points.

Maranatha now plays top-seeded Arlington Baptist College today at 1:15 p.m.
