POYNETTE — Waterloo’s softball team won 16-0 versus Bonduel and topped Columbus 6-4 in extra innings on Kamden Fitzgerald’s game-winning 2-run single at the Poynette Tournament on Friday.

Against Bonduel, the Pirates strung together 17 hits. Melanie Renforth was 3 for 5, had three RBIs and scored three times.

Kaitlyn Filter was 3 for 4 with a double. Abbie Gier, Michaela Riege and Alyssa Baumann each had two hits.

Avery Meyer worked two innings, striking out one to earn the decision and Jennah Smith pitched the final three frames and struck out three.

In the finale, Fitzgerald singled to center on a 2-1 pitch, plating Brittney Limoseth and Quinnly Hush, as the Pirates won in the bottom of the eighth versus Columbus.

Waterloo (4-4-1) tied it with three runs in the fourth and both teams scored a run in the fifth before two scoreless innings forced extras.

Riege was 3 for 3 with a triple and Meyer had two base knocks.

Meyer went the distance to earn the win, striking out five and allowing one earned. She gave up four hits and walked two.

Waterloo plays at Wisconsin Heights for a Capitol South doubleheader on Tuesday starting at 4 p.m.

JOHNSON CREEK — Rylie Thomas was 2 for 3 with two doubles, driving in four as the Johnson Creek softball team scored 11 runs in the first inning before beating visiting Rio 16-0 in a Trailways Conference game on Friday.

Amaya Wilson was 2 for 3 and Alyssa Kwarciany drove in three runs for the Bluejays (11-2).

Lexy Swanson struck out five, allowing one hit over all three innings.

Johnson Creek plays at Lakeside Lutheran in a nonconference game today at 5 p.m.
