MBU women see win streak snapped to Arlington Baptist

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Zayda Gonzalez led all scorers with 18 points and the top-seeded Arlington Baptist College women’s basketball team got fourth-seeded Maranatha Baptist University in foul trouble en route to winning an NCCAA Division 2 national semifinal game 62-50 Friday to snap the Sabercats’ 13-game win streak.

Junior guard Karley Johnson had 14 points and 12 boards and sophomore forward Jacklyn Simpson added 13 for Maranatha (18-7).

The Sabercats were held to 1-of-12 from beyond the arc and had to play the final minutes without freshman point guard Callie Morrison who fouled out with 10 points.

Arlington Baptist, the four-time defending national champions, led by 10 at halftime and used a press to force 23 turnovers.
