Senior forward Jens Madsen’s goal in the 90th minute lifted Watertown’s boys soccer team to a 4-3 overtime victory over Madison East in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal Tuesday at Landsverk Field.
Seventh-seeded Watertown (11-7-3) bolted out to a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes of regulation on goals by junior midfielder McCrea Baker at the 4-minute mark and the 7-minute mark, and a goal from senior midfielder Juan Esquivel at the 8-minute mark.
Tenth-seeded Madison East rallied with three goals in the second half to force overtime, where Madsen saved Watertown’s season off an assist from junior midfielder Billy Oswald.
“The guys got off to an early lead with some fantastic goals by McCrea and Juan,” Watertown boys soccer coach Josh Kerr said. “Madison East was a tough team, and they showed a lot of guts to bring it to overtime. Jens received a phenomenal pass from Billy to finish the game in overtime.”
Watertown outshot Madison East 12-7. Junior goalkeeper Ryan Bergen made four saves for the Goslings, who travel to play second-seeded Muskego on Thursday.
