Marvin L. Hanke, 70, of Watertown, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Watertown with Rev. Timothy Mueller officiating. Family and friends may gather at Hafemeister Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial, with military graveside rites, will take place at Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
Marvin Louis Hanke was born on July 21, 1948, in Watertown, son of Edwin and Elsie (nee Schwefel) Hanke. He grew up raising beef with his family. He graduated from Hartford High School as part of the Class of 1966 before serving his country in the United States Army. He married the former Barbara Schliewe on Aug. 3, 1991, at the Izaak Walton League Clubhouse. He worked at Metalcraft in Mayville as a quality control technician. He was active in American Legion Post #15, Vietnam Veterans of Jefferson County, RATS Club, and Isaac Walton League. In his spare time, Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and trapping. He was a talented baker, and was known for his chocolate chip cookies. He was an avid fan of the Dodge County Braves.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Barb Hanke; children, Laurie (Mark) Freson, Tony Hanke, Jeremiah Hanke; siblings, Doris (James) Gindt, Ruth Ducklow, Millie (Lyn) Bully, Linda (Robert) Fortmann; brother-in-law, Ron Schmeling; best friends, John and Wendy Hanson; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-laws, Franklin and Junerose Schliewe; daughter, Lisa Hanke; siblings, Charles (Lillian) Hanke, Elaine Liesener, Elizabeth Schmeling; brothers-in-law, George Ducklow and Elroy Liesener.
