Adella M. Rowoldt

Adella M. Rowoldt

Adella M. (Raether) Rowoldt, age 93, of Watertown/Sun Prairie, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Sunday, July 14, 2019.

She was born in Columbus on Feb. 3, 1926, the eighth child of the late Emil and Dora (Bunke) Raether. She spent her childhood on the family farm in rural Marshall, and as a teen her parents left the farm and moved the family into town. She was united in marriage to Alfred H. Rowoldt on Sept. 16, 1950, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marshall. Alfred and Adella spent 51 years together before his passing on Oct. 31, 2001.

Adella is survived by two daughters, Judith (Ross) Zanto and Jane (Don) Engelhart, both of Madison; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, James; her parents; three brothers, Arnold, Gerald, and Charles Raether; and six sisters, Fern Gossfeld, Adeline Raether, Viola Beattie, Irma Gray, Lorraine Krueger and Caroline Keiner. Adella was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Adella’s work career began in 1944 at the Lake Mills Shoe Factory. She was also employed by Schweiger Furniture, Bethesda Lutheran Home, and Sealy Mattress Company, from where she retired in 1993. After her retirement, she kept busy with her home, her beautiful flower boxes and pots which she planted every summer, and her love of crocheting, making many beautiful family heirlooms. She also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels with her friend, Dorothy. She is a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, and a past member of its Ladies Aid.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 615 Jones St., Watertown,  with Rev. Karl Walther officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will be private and will take place at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church or to Agrace HospiceCare, Madison.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Hyland Crossings Memory Care, Sun Prairie, for the loving care given to our mother over the years she resided there. Also, heartfelt thanks to the care team at Agrace HospiceCare who attended to Adella with kindness and dignity during her short stay with them. The family would like to thank her guardian angel neighbors, Mike Meyer and Mike Hinkes, for their care and concern over the years.

Mom, you have faced many challenges during your life, and you faced them all with extreme courage, fierce determination, and strong faith. You worked hard and sacrificed much for us, and never complained. Our love for you will never cease, and we are so, so very blessed to have had you as our mother.

Now the light has gone away; Father, listen while I pray, asking thee to watch and keep and to send me quiet sleep.
