Kathy Bartee Cox
JOPLIN, Mo. — Kathleen K. Cox, age 54, of Joplin, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at her home.
Kathy was born March 30, 1958, in Watertown, Wis., the daughter of Thomas and Dolores (Moldenhauer) Bartee. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lebanon, Wis., and attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1976 and earned her nursing degree from Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wis. After working many years as an emergency room nurse in St. Louis, she traveled the United States as a flight nurse for an air ambulance service.
She married Dr. Jeff Cox on Sept. 7, 1990. The couple moved to Joplin in 1993. She continued her nursing career until she became a full-time mother. Kathy was a loving and devoted mother to her four children. She enjoyed being involved in their activities, and took great joy in their many accomplishments. As a family, they enjoyed spending time at the lake. Her other passions included animals, home improvement projects and “The Young & the Restless.”
She is survived by her husband, Jeff Cox, and their four children, Lucas, Emma, Jared and Claire Cox, at home; her mother, Dolores Bartee, Lebanon; two sisters, Diane Bosshard and her husband, Bill, and their children Andy, Joe, Makenzie, Carley and John of La Crosse, Wis.; Pam Bartee and her husband Bruce Christian of Watertown, Wis.; one brother, Thomas Bartee and his son, Jackson, Superior, Colo.; her mother and father-in-law, Stan and Joyce Cox, Joplin; her aunt and uncle Tom and Marlene Baranowski, Waukesha, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Kristi Barnard, St. Louis; and her son, Wil, Carl Junction; and Missy Williams , her husband, Kenny, and their children, Connor and Anna, Carl Junction; her special friends, Les, Linda, Ed, Sheri, Gary, Margie, Rachel and Amanda; and her precious pets, Izzy, Jessie, Lily, Max, K.C. and Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Bartee.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Christ’s Church of Oronogo. Jim Easton will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Parker Maher, Josh Banwart, Brad White, Morgan Davis and Locke McAllister.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday, at Mason-Woodard Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.
