Helen Harriet (Schultz) Weise passed away in Watertown on Saturday, June 8, 2019. She was born in Watertown on Aug. 29, 1926, to Herman and Rose (Zwarra) Schultz. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1945, and worked in a variety of Watertown's manufacturing industries including Watertown's Shoe Factory, the Box Factory, Hevi-Duty Electric and Brandt Automatic Cashier. In 1960, she married David J. Weise. In 1966, they owned and operated a tavern together: "Dave & Helen's" on Third Street. Eventually, Helen found the job she enjoyed the most: being a crossing guard near Lincoln School. She did this for more than 20 years, with the help of her faithful little dogs, Mr. Bo-jangles and Buddy. She always greeted the children with plenty of hugs and sent them off to school or back home with a smile.
Helen was the last member of her immediate family, being preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Weise on April 24, 2008; her brothers, Harry Schultz, who died in the Battle of the Bulge, Herman (Lillian) Schultz, Clarence (Delores) Schultz; her sister, Josephine (William) Lafler; her half-brothers, Herb (Lucille) Zwarra, Percy (Margaret) Schultz; half-sister, Grace (Augie) Schultz; nieces, Mary-Claire Box and Kathy Lafler, and nephew, Harry Lafler. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives, friends and neighbors.
Helen was known by most friends and family members as "Auntie," and could be counted on for her help and support whenever she could. She loved gardening, her dogs, collecting teddy bears and supporting the Watertown Art Fairs. All will remember her big and ever-ready smiles and infectious sense of humor.
The family thanks Marquardt Manor's entire staff and hospice care professionals for the loving care they gave Helen during her stay there.
Private interment will be at a later date. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hafemeisterfh.com
