BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Eldonna Degner of Brookings, South Dakota, went to heaven on Tuesday, June 25 at the age of 91.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brookings. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1010 8th St S., Brookings, SD 57006. Rude's Funeral Home of Brookings is assisting with the arrangements.
Eldonna was born to Herbert and Sophie Timm of Brownton, Minnesota. She met her husband, Orville, in Jefferson, Wisconsin, where both were teachers together at St. John's Lutheran Grade School. Together, they raised six children. Throughout her life, she lived in Brownton; Jefferson; Montello, Wisconsin; Sun Lakes, Arizona; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and finally moving to Brookings after her husband's death to live with her youngest daughter, Vonda Degner. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dale Degner of Phoenix.
Eldonna was a master piano player and organist. She taught piano to numerous students in Jefferson as well as the organ at her church in Chandler, Arizona. The education of her children was her top priority raising them to be fiercely independent, Godly, college educated and locating throughout the country to make their mark in business and education.
Eldonna leaves five children to celebrate her passing to heaven: Luanne Bizal of Littleton, Colorado; Dianne Degner of Lafayette, Indiana; David of Charlotte, North Carolina; Daniel of Scottsdale, Arizona; and Vonda Degner, of Brookings.
The family would like to thank Brookings Hospice program; Lynette and Ashley; and Pastor Brokmeier from Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brookings.
