Watertown native son, 93-year-old Charles A. Zoelle, passed into eternity on Sunday, June 30, 2019, surrounded by his family at his home in Texas.
Zoelle was a star athlete and leader in student government at Watertown High School during the 1940's. He enlisted in the Navy after graduation during World War II and was set to ship out to the Pacific at the end of hostilities. Zoelle went on to become a University of Wisconsin gridiron letterman and was the oldest living Badger at the time of his passing. He spent the bulk of his career in technical sales in the oil and gas industry and enjoyed sports throughout his life being a state-ranked tennis player into his 80's. On the ballfield and among his friends, family and colleagues, Chuck was known as someone who found a way to "give all he had and still give a little more."
He was the youngest son of longtime Watertown residents George and Sarah Zoelle.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years and is survived by his three children, three grandchildren and his second wife of 28 years.
Charles Zoelle was buried with a private honor guard ceremony July 18, 2019.
