Gilbert "Gib" Radtke

September 30, 1929 - November 10, 2019

Ashippun -- Gilbert F. Radtke, age 90, went to his heavenly home on November 10, 2019. He was in the presence of family at his residence at Heritage Homes in Watertown. Gilbert was born on September 30, 1929 to Gerhard and Esther Radtke. He then lived his entire life on the Radtke homestead in Ashippun, WI until spending his last year in Watertown. Gilbert married Betty Hulke on June 25, 1950. Together they raised a family of six children and ran a trucking company. Gilbert began driving a milk truck at the age of 17. Several semis and 3 million miles later, he retired in 2000. Gib "drove more miles backwards than most people ever drive forwards." Gilbert loved his Lord and his church, St. John's Lutheran of Ashippun. He took great pride in keeping the cemetery lawn mowed and trimmed. Gib was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He also enjoyed traveling to places such as Las Vegas, cheering on Wisconsin sports teams, and playing countless hands of sheepshead.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, after 68 years of marriage. He is survived by his six children: Greg (Debi) Radtke, Becky (Jeff) Breitrick, Heidi (Tom) Notbohm, Jennifer (Chris) Czerwinski, Jonathan Radtke, and Joel (Karen) Radtke; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and two sisters: Jeanne (Joseph) Schwartz and Laurel (Robert) Van Gundy.

We celebrate Gib's passing to be with the Lord and be reunited with Betty. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 17 at 3 pm at St. John's Lutheran of Ashippun, N1245 St. John's Way, Oconomowoc, WI with Rev. Gary Tillman presiding. Visitation will be from 1-3 pm and a meal will be served following the memorial service. Burial will be private.
