May 14, 1955 - September 7, 2019
Watertown -- Watertown, WI - Glenn C. Wegner 64 passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019, doing what he loved best, on a tractor, baling hay. When it came to work ethic, very few could surpass Glenn. Because there was always work to be done, it should come as no surprise that he died of natural causes while lending a hand to a friend doing field work.
Glenn was born in Watertown on May 14, 1955, the son of Edward and Florence Wegner. With the exception of a few short years in the big city of Watertown, Glenn spent most of his life living and working his family's farm, one of Jefferson County's original homestead farms. A sixth-generation dairy farmer, he was joined on the farm by the love of his life, his wife, Linda (West) Wegner, who he married on April 22, 1978 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown. Together they raised five children, instilling in all of them the value of a day's work and getting one's hands dirty. Glenn sold his dairy herd in November 2018, but never one to sit still, he continued to work the farm, raising beef cattle while working a part-time job. When he wasn't checking items off his never-ending to-do list, he was happy to lend his time and talents to his family, friends, neighbors and fellow farmers. Glenn had a deep appreciation for Oliver tractors, and worked tirelessly through the years to keep his beloved 1957 Oliver 1800 with a checkerboard front grille, running on the farm. Like his father, he also had a special affinity for R.C. Cola soda, Friday night fish fries and sitting in the quiet of dusk, looking out over his farm.
Glenn is survived by his wife Linda; his daughters: Amanda of McFarland and Lacey Jo of Watertown; his sons Benjamin, Lucas and Nathan, all of Watertown; and his granddaughter, Addison. He is further survived by his sisters Mary (Larry) Braunschweig of Watertown and Ruth (Jim) Mack of Beaver Dam; and brothers Edward (Grace) Wegner of Watertown; Donald Wegner (Lisa Nashold) of Johnson Creek; and William (Christine) Wegner of Watertown; sisters-in-law Sandra (Cliff) Retzlaff and Diane (Jim) Bennett and brother-in-law Craig (Michelle) West; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Cash.
A celebration of Glenn's life will held on Friday, Sept. 13, 2019 at SCHMUTZLER-VICK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Memorials in Glenn's honor to the family or a charity of one's choice would be appreciated. Memories and condolences may be sent at www.watertownwifuneralhome.com.
