Water department to flush hydrants

The Watertown Water Department on Monday will begin flushing fire hydrants from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.

One crew will start on Main Street, between First Street and Eighth Street and a second crew will start on Hospital Drive. Flushing will continue Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On the week of Sept. 16, hydrants will be flushed Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hydrants located on streets that are currently under construction will not be flushed at this time.

For more information about hydrant flushing or if you experience rusty water, see the "FAQ's & Helpful Hints" tab, items 13 and 14, of the Water Department website at www.ci.watertown.wi.us/departments/water_department.

"The Water Department would like to thank everyone in advance for your understanding and patience during hydrant flushing." The water department said in a statement. "It is a very important part of providing the city with quality water and ensuring that fire hydrants are in good working condition."
