Watertown Rotary students for the month of February are Jillian Degrandt, Ben Smith and Madlyn Zingler.
Degrandt is the daughter of Shelly Degrandt and Henry Degrandt.
While in school she was a state semifinalist in forensics and has been involved in show choir, the musical and the spring play as either the director or writer/director. Degrandt is secretary of National Honor Society and in Spanish Honor Society. She is in International and Interact clubs as well as student council, Watertown Carolers and Tri-M Music Honor Society. She played volleyball freshman year and has helped the community at the Loaves and Fishes dinner.
In the fall she plans to study communications at a university. Her hobbies include reading, writing, camping and watching movies.
Smith is the son of Matt and Ginny Smith.
While in school he has been involved in varsity basketball and is the captain this year as well as home-school basketball. He plays the cello and has received first place ratings at Wisconsin School Music Association competitions. Smith was a member of the pit orchestra this year for the musical. He is in student council, Key Club and was named athlete of the month in November 2017.
Smith helps the community by volunteering at St. Ben's Homeless Shelter in Milwaukee serving meals. He is also a volunteer baby sitter and uncle to eight nieces and nephews.
In the fall he plans to attend Marquette University to study business. His hobbies include cello, archery, watching Netflix, sports and spending time with family and friends.
Zingler is the daughter of Becky and Tracy Zingler.
While in school she has been involved with cross country her senior year, girls soccer all four years, is the parliamentarian for the Interact Club, a member of the academic decathlon team, on math team, Model U.N. delegate and pit orchestra. Zingler was a delegate at Badger Girls State.
She is in the Watertown Area Chamber Orchestra and is the first chair viola in the WHS orchestra.
Zingler has helped the community by volunteering as a park and rec soccer coach and at Rake Fest.
She works at Watertown Piggly Wiggly and hopes to someday work in politics. In her free time Zingler enjoys playing soccer, collecting records and running.
