Final Mecki clue is released in Jefferson

JEFFERSON -- The Gemuetlichkeit festival is just days around the corner, and the Mecki contest is going on.

Mecki is the German Hedgehog cartoon character that, for decades, has been the unofficial mascot of Jefferson's German-heritage festival, which takes place Friday through Sunday. Clues are posted in the Watertown Daily Times, Gemuetlichkeit Days website at www.gdays.org, and Jefferson public library.

When Mecki is found, the finder should take the Mecki to the Jefferson Public Library. The library will contact the Gemuetlichkeit Days contest chairman.

A $100 prize will be awarded to the lucky winner.

The final clue reads:

"Boats to the south, Cars to the north, I'm watching them all go back and forth.

Family, Friends, Food, Polka dancing … are all such good reasons. To enjoy the fest, this 'Oktoberfest' season."
