Columbus man found guilty of prostitution

JUNEAU — A Columbus man who was arrested in September 2018 at the Hardware Store in Clyman on prostitution charges was found guilty Tuesday in Dodge County Circuit Court.

Joseph Brown, 65, entered a no contest plea to a misdemeanor charge of prostitution -- sexual gratification. Shirley Quinn of Milwaukee was found guilty on similar charges in November 2018 for her role and was ordered to pay a $250 fine along with court costs.

According to the criminal complaint, Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt was in full uniform while conducting a routine bar check at the establishment on Main Street when he caught Quinn in the act with Brown.

The 26-year-old Quinn was quoted as having a "deer-in-headlights look" when Schmidt confronted both of them in a private room. They denied any sexual act was going on between them.

When interviewed individually, Quinn told Schmidt that she was not making any money at the strip club and Brown had asked her to be "spontaneous" and "do a little extra" for $100, the complaint states.

Brown continued to deny the accusations, but later admitted to giving Quinn money and said he was doing it to help her out.

Brown was ordered to pay more than $1,500 in fines and court costs.
