The Watertown Public Works Commission approved a contract with Forest Landscaping & Construction, Inc. for $728,795 for a 2019 sanitary sewer and water main project during its meeting Tuesday.

"This contractor was the contractor we worked with last year," according to the minutes submitted by Tim Raether, a commission member. "Street Superintendent Randy Franks reminded the committee that the water main issue last year was attributed to the manufacturer of the pipe, not the contractor."

Franks told the commission backfill stone was not included in the quote. This is usually provided by the city quarry, according to Raether.

"No method of evaluation tonnage removed by the contractor out of the quarry is currently in place," he said.

The commission agreed to discuss this more at the next meeting as it could mean cost savings to the contract.

Members of the commission were updated on stormwater pond inspection notices. An example was shown by Assistant City Engineer Andrew Beyer of a notification to a property owner.

The commission took action on a number of bids that will go to the common council for approval. They include:

-- A 2019 pavement marking contract with Century Fence Co. for $110,450.80.

-- A 2019 crack sealing and seal coating contract with Scott Construction, Inc. for $290,100.

-- A 2019 sidewalk, curb and gutter contract with Rennhack Construction for $559,297.50.

-- A 2019 bituminous surfacing contract with Stark Pavement Corp. for $702,176.

-- A 2019 Local Roads Improvement Program contract with Payne & Dolan, Inc. for $168,874.59.

-- The purchase of 2019 stormwater work and inventory from Neenah Foundry for $48,375.

-- The purchase of 2019 stormwater work and inventory from Country Materials for $15,538.10.

-- The purchase of additional materials for 2019 stormwater work and inventory from Core & Main for $12,189.78.
