Report of gunshots at Riverside Park Tuesday

The Watertown Police Department Tuesday was notified by the Watertown Park and Recreation Department of possible gunshots in the area of Riverside Park, 812 Labaree St., at approximately 2 p.m.

Officers arrived on scene and confirmed there was evidence of a shooting near the volleyball courts.

A 21-year-old male was located and taken into custody. A handgun was found in his possession. No further information about his identity was released by press time.

It appeared the suspect was shooting at trees. He is currently being booked for recklessly endangering safety.

No other people were identified as being directly involved in this incident. There were no reports of anyone being injured.

This investigation is still active while police follow available leads.

Officers canvassed the area but are asking for the help of the public to report any evidence they may believe is related to this incident.
