Adult, youth activities at Jefferson Library

JEFFERSON -- The Jefferson Public Library has announced its upcoming adult and youth programs next week.

In youth programming:

-- Registration for the summer reading program, A Universe of Stories, has begun and participants can start reporting on Monday.

-- The Fan Fiction Writing Contest begins on Tuesday and all entries should be turned in at the Jefferson Public Library no later than 5 p.m. on July 19. 

This contest is intended to encourage participants to try their hand at writing a short story about their favorite fictional character, sci-fi character, or series. Stop by the youth department for more information. Participants are not required to attend workshops however, participants are encouraged to attend because they will be able to share ideas, work on their story, proofread for others, and spend time with others who like to write. 

The first Writing Workshop will be held on Tuesday, from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Contest is for children ages 8 and up. 

-- Children ages 1 to 5 and their families are invited to attend Storytime on Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. Join the library for stories, songs, rhymes, and a take home craft. 

-- Teens that are going into the sixth grade and up are encouraged to join the teen volunteer group SHELF. A meeting will be held Wednesday from 1- 2 p.m. Members will be helping out this summer with registration and reporting, program set up, and other fun stuff. Volunteers who work 14 hours will be invited to the end of summer party.

-- Children are invited to the Cursive Writing Workshop on Thursday from 2:30-3:15 p.m. It will give participants the opportunity to read and write in cursive.

-- Build, create, and explore with a new theme and challenge each month at Building club on Friday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Children ages 5 and up are invited to attend. 

In adult programming:

-- Registration for the summer reading program has begun. People can come in to sign up and start working on their bingo card. Decorate a celestial T-shirt on Tuesday from 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m. People must bring their own black or navy T-shirt. Paint is provided.

-- Friends of the Jefferson Library will have a meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Some of the items on the agenda are the upcoming are the summer trivia contest on June 21 and the "Universe of Stories" Quilt Raffle taking place throughout the summer and fall.
