County building panel signs off on design firm

Dodge County Administration Building

JUNEAU -- Dodge County Building Committee members are examining what to do with the law enforcement center including a 1977 addition to it.

The committee authorized a resolution Thursday transferring $26,400 from the 2019 physical facilities budget to Angus Young of Janesville to work on design and architectural services.

A plan has been established to repurpose the basement of the 1977 section into vehicle and equipment storage for the Dodge County Sheriff's Office.

The resolution also gives the county the ability to bid the project out to contractors. Building committee members recommended borrowing monies from the general fund to pay for the project's total cost, which has yet to be determined.

County supervisor Cathy Houchin said Dodge County has already borrowed too much and needs to "slow down" on its borrowing. Houchin said she was against the committee's resolution Thursday but said she may change her mind later in the process.

The county board will vote on the resolution during their meeting this month and, if approved, Angus Young will begin moving on its design plans.

Dodge County physical facilities director Russ Freber said no time line has been established yet on when their work should be completed.
