A proposed ordinance calling for the elimination of the park and recreation commission was introduced at the committee meeting of the city council last evening by mayor-elect Ken Wilkes. Under the proposed ordinance all park and recreation business would be placed under the office of the park and recreation director with the public welfare committee, consisting of five aldermen, holding the jurisdiction over the director.

Dr. Suzanne Hotter, superintendent of the Watertown Unified School District, is one of six candidates under consideration to head Cooperative Educational Service Agency 2. Tom Shepro, the current administrator, said he expected the board of control to choose his replacement at a meeting in Milton Tuesday night. CESA 2 serves the Watertown Unified School District along with other area districts. Shepro is retiring June 30.

The Watertown Police Department recently promoted two officers to supervisory ranks. Robert Kaminski, a 17-year department veteran, has been promoted from sergeant to captain and Steven Schroeder, who's been with the department for over five years, has been promoted from police officer to sergeant. Kaminski began his career with the Watertown Police Department on July 8, 1991. During his tenure, Kaminski has served as a field training officer, detective and sergeant. He is currently a certified professional communications and police ethics instructor. Kaminski is a graduate of Milwaukee Tech High School and earned an associate's degree from Madison Area Technical College in police science in 1990 and a bachelor's degree from Excelsior College in 2009. He is a 2007 graduate of the 228th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.
