MILWAUKEE -- The Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce has announced state Rep. Joel Kleefisch, R-Oconomowoc, has received the Champion of Commerce award for his service in the 2017-18 Wisconsin legislative session.
"Through the hard work of leaders like Rep. Kleefisch, we were able to achieve a number of significant public policy victories for the workers and employers of the Metropolitan Milwaukee region," MMAC President Tim Sheehy said. "Rep. Kleefisch is working hard in Madison to keep Wisconsin's economy competitive. We are grateful for his service and proud to salute him with our Champion of Commerce award."
The Champion of Commerce award is given to lawmakers who earn an 80 percent or greater ranking on MMAC's biennial Legislative Scorecard. The scorecard tallies significant votes in priority areas identified by the "MMAC Blueprint for Economic Prosperity."
"Every two years, in advance of the legislative session, we lay out our members' public policy priorities to lawmakers, the press and the public in our 'Blueprint for Economic Prosperity,'" Sheehy said. "This award recognizes those legislative leaders, like Rep. Kleefisch, who took note of those priorities and worked to advance them in Madison."
The MMAC represents nearly 2000 member companies employing over 300,000 workers in the metropolitan Milwaukee Region.
