Watertown senior outside hitter Erienne Lauersdorf headed a list of five area athletes honored by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association in all-state voting held recently.

Lauersdorf earned first team honors to cap off her third straight all-state season. She made the second team as a junior and made the third team as a sophomore.

As a senior, Lauersdorf had a team-high 458 kills to go with 350 digs, 49 aces and 39 total blocks in leading Watertown to a 39-7 record.

She leaves as the school's career kills leader with 1,319 and is second all-time in digs (1,329) and aces (161).

“Her consistency (sets her apart),” Watertown volleyball coach Travis Hull said.

“She definitely has proven that she is at that top level right there. If you look at the whole picture of everything she does, she does such a good job at all of it. She's a great passer, a great offensive weapon and a great server. Her leadership is maybe something that doesn't always show through, but it's definitely something we notice.”

Dodgeland junior setter and outside hitter Samantha Schultz was named to the second team. Schultz had 202 kills, 127 assists, 179 digs, 91 total blocks and served 44 aces for the Trojans.

“I think that her ability to play any position on the court, and excel at it, is a big factor,” Dodgeland volleyball coach Darcia Schweitzer said. “I also think that she had some really big games against nonconference coaches who are likely voters for the all-state awards.”

Watertown senior middle Jenna Schwartz made the third team. She had 285 kills and 99 total blocks on the season and finished with 454 career kills and 169 career blocks.

“She is a kid that worked extremely hard,” Hull said.

“She didn't come in as a freshman with a real high skill set, but Jenna is a kid that is really determined. She worked really hard. She put in the extra effort and work that she needed to. She seems to perform well in a lot of our big matches and big tournaments. That's where the all-state committees are usually at. She played really well against great competition.”

Receiving honorable mention were Watertown senior outside hitter Leanna Lillge and Lakeside Lutheran senior outside hitter Jenna Luisier.

Lillge had a team-high 351 digs to go with 333 kills, 43 aces and 36 total blocks. She leaves as the school's career leader in aces (177) and is second all-time in career kills (1,164) and third all-time in digs (1,180).

Both Lillge and Lauersdorf were part of three state tournament teams including the 2007 Division 1 state champions.

“She's been one of the best players we've had here,” Hull said of Lillge.

“She's overshadowed a little bit by Erienne, especially the way Erienne played the last few years, but Leanna was a big part of what made us tough to stop. We didn't have just one kid. She was a primary passer for us pretty much since her freshman year. I am very happy she was able to get some recognition by the all-state group.”

Luisier recorded 383 kills on the season for Lakeside and had 112 kills and 23 aces in 10 conference matches. She graduates as the school record holder in career kills with 790 in three out of five set matches.

“Her four years, it was like having another coach out on the court,” Lakeside Lutheran volleyball coach Karen Raasch said.

“She knows the game and she knows how to work with her teammates. She's able to help them out on the court. She hits very well and she knows the court. She is a complete player. She plays a very solid back row. She anticipates what hitters are going to hit and plays the ball well. She also hits the ball well. She puts the ball away when she is in the front row. Her leadership skills are so high. She makes the players around her better.”
