Volunteers needed for Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dodge County and Watertown Community is in need of volunteers for two mentoring programs and others to serve as board members.

“Giving a little of your time is just as important as donating your money,” Betsy Bright, executive director, said. “Even if the economy has left you unable to support Big Brothers Big Sisters financially, please consider donating your time.”

The organization service is based on volunteers who can volunteer their time by being a mentor, board member or assist with fundraising efforts.

“Big Brothers Big Sisters has proven success in creating and nurturing positive relationships that benefit everyone involved, including, the child, the families, 0the volunteers and the community,” Bright said.

There are several volunteer opportunities. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Some of those opportunities include:

- Mentor in the traditional Community Program or Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple. This requires just a few hours per week spending time with a child in the community.

- Mentor in the Partners at Lunch program. For a shorter time commitment, spend lunch-time once per week with a child in the school setting throughout the school year. This program is available in the communities of Horicon, Hustisford, Juneau and Watertown in the elementary and middle schools.

- Volunteer as a board member. The Big Brothers Big Sisters board meets once per month on the first Tuesday. Board members carry out an important role in promoting the organization through community involvement, fundraising events, and crucial decision-making as a group of leaders.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dodge County & Watertown Community was established on Nov. 14, 1974, at this time it was called Big Brothers of Dodge County. Big Sisters was added to the national organization and affiliates across the Nation on Dec. 1, 1988.
