LODI - The Luther Prep girls basketball team returned from the holiday break and rallied from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Lodi in a Capitol Conference North Division game Friday.
The Phoenix managed just single digits in points in the first three quarters but were in the game down just 27-22 due to its defense. The Phoenix offense came alive in the fourth quarter and the defense stayed strong as LPS outscored Lodi 21-8 to pull away.
Luther Prep junior guard Lydia Free scored 10 of her game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter while junior guard Maddie Scott added five of her nine in the final eight minutes.
“We started to put it together in the fourth quarter,” Luther Prep coach Randy Mensching said. “I was very pleased with our defensive effort. For the first three quarters we were getting good looks but missed some shots. In the fourth quarter our defense fueled our offense and we got things going.”
LPS junior forward Hanna Rothe added nine points and nine rebounds in the victory.
Luther Prep plays today at 7:30 p.m. at home against Kettle Moraine Lutheran.
