HEBRON, Ill. - The Maranatha Baptist Academy girls basketball team picked up its first victory of the season with a 48-24 thrashing of Alden-Hebron (Ill.) in an Indian Trails Conference game Monday.
“Due to work being done on our gym floor we were unable to practice over break and I was dreading the trip to Alden-Hebron,” Maranatha coach Randy Montgomery said. “But we were able to put together a decent game in spite of the conditions.”
The Crusaders led 11-8 after one quarter, but dominated from there. Maranatha outscored A-H 10-2 in the second, 11-7 in the third and then closed it out 16-7 in the fourth.
“Torey DeLozier had a stand out evening with 10 baskets in the paint,” Montgomery said. “Ten of her 16 rebounds were offensive boards, getting second shots in this type of game is huge. Connecting on them is just plain sweet. Kristin Morrison finally broke out of her slump from the perimeter hitting four 2's and three 3's along with a couple of free throws to tally 18 points. We were a plus-five on give-a-ways and take-a-ways. Everybody got time on the floor, I was glad to finally be able to play some of the bench players - who really held their own too.”
DeLozier finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds while Morrison had 18 points and six rebounds.
