WATERLOO - Senior guard Eric Toben scored 24 points and junior forward Sam Gage added 19 as Waterloo's boys basketball team got past Fall River 63-62 in overtime Monday night.
Waterloo (3-3) held an early lead to start the game, but Fall River (5-2) played with the lead for much of regulation.
“We were down seven going into the fourth,” Waterloo boys basketball coach John Weiss said. “We just did not play well. We played like we haven't played for the two weeks we haven't played, very sluggish.
“We battled. We hung around, hung around Š I didn't feel real good going into the fourth quarter.”
Toben scored nine of his 24 in the fourth quarter, while Gage scored seven of his 19 including a 3-pointer to finally draw the host Pirates even with the visiting Pirates at 51-51.
Sophomore guard Travis Ellis scored all nine in the fourth quarter and overtime, including four in the extra period. Toben scored the last of his 24 points on two free throws in overtime.
Senior center Taylor Patrick led Fall River with 21 points, while senior guard Chris Fauser finished with 18. Fauser's game-winning attempt from 10 feet at the overtime buzzer rimmed out.
“We gutted it out,” Weiss said. “It was not unlike the Deerfield game. We're not overly talented. We're not flashy by any means, but they just compete and that's why they are fun to coach.”
Waterloo plays at Lodi on Thursday.

WILLIAMS BAY - Junior forward Jack Slovick scored 22 points as host Williams Bay defeated Hustisford 61-49 in a battle of winless Southern Trailways teams Monday.
Williams Bay (1-3, 1-1 in conference) led 52-47 after three quarters, then closed the game on a 9-2 run in the fourth. Christian O'Connor scored five of those points for the Bulldogs with a basket and three free throws.
The Bulldogs went 5-of-9 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter, while Hustisford (0-8, 0-3) shot just 1-for-12 from the field down the stretch.
“Up until this game, our fourth quarter has probably been our best quarter,” Hustisford boys basketball coach Kirk Kaul said. “We've scored more points in the fourth going into this game (than any other quarter).
“It was a five point game and our ball (to start the fourth). We came off a set play, didn't score and it just got a lot tougher to score after that.”
Senior guard Wade Falkenthal maintained his scoring average of over 20 points per game with 22 points to go with six rebounds and three assists.
Junior guard Adam Falkenthal added six points, four rebounds and two assists. He held Slovick to seven second half points.
Junior guard Brett Hildebrandt added four assists and held Ben Miller (13 points) to one field goal in the second half.
Kaul praised the individual defensive efforts, but once again criticized his squad for a lack of scoring balance.
“We just aren't getting the production from the rest of the team and we can't continue to rely on just Wade night in and night out,” Kaul said. “Something's got to change and real quick.”
Hustisford hosts Deerfield Thursday.
