Scott D. Coley

HUSTISFORD - Dear honey, dad, brother, uncle, neighbor, friend, Scott: you left us so quickly, and we didn't have time to say goodbye. Thank you for being in our lives; so let us now celebrate yours.

Scott D. Coley of Hustisford passed away on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at the age of 57. Nobody was expecting him to leave, but heart problems suddenly overcame him while driving to work on Friday morning.

Scott's life began on Nov. 19, 1951, as the son of Russell and Margaret “Midge” (Koning) Coley. He shared his childhood in North Prairie with five siblings. He and Karen (Imse) Coley married on Sept. 22, 1984, with whom he lived in Hustisford and raised two sons, Nick and Sam.

Scott graduated from Wayland Academy in 1971 and studied architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, applying his talents to his home building business. Home construction was his profession, but he couldn't be kept from his side projects, most recently the Hustisford Farmers' Market. He moved to Lake Sinissippi in the early 1970s and over the years transformed a small cabin into a home. The lake was his passion, and water-skiing even more so. He founded the Lake Sinissippi Water-ski Club, and eventually became president of the Wisconsin Water-ski Federation, developing collegiate water-ski teams across the Midwest.

A problem solver, a brilliant thinker, a perfectionist, an entertainer and a caring husband, father and friend, Scott left his mark on many people and places. Look for Scott in the dozens of homes he created, in the college water-ski teams he started, in the farmers' market, in his wife and his sons, and in the memories we have of him that continue to shape us into the future.

Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Karen, and sons, Nick (20) and Sam (15); by his siblings, Jane (Jim) Molstad of La Crosse, Russell (Jeanine) Coley of Mukwonago, Barbara Coley of San Rafael, Calif., Connie Loden of Wisconsin Rapids and Rebecca Coley of Lyndon Station; by nieces and nephews; by other relatives; and by many, many friends from many circles and backgrounds.

We invite you to celebrate Scott's life on Tuesday at St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, N4911 Gray Road, Hustisford. Private burial will be in Hustisford Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Scott Coley Memorial Fund at Hustisford State Bank (920-349-3241) for Scott's favorite charities.
