HORICON - Junior guard Shelby Scharf scored six of her 13 points in overtime as Horicon edged Hustisford 52-50 in a nonconference girls basketball game Friday.
Hustisford (1-1) trailed by seven with two minutes to go, but battled back to force overtime.
Senior center Shyla Kuehl led all scorers with 24 points and added 15 rebounds and three steals for the Falcons. Senior point guard Katie Maas added 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. Freshman forward Marisa Nass added 10 rebounds and three steals. Sophomore forward Brandi Peltier added five points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Hustisford struggled at the line, hitting 15-of-29 foul shots in the game, allowing the host Marshladies to prevail in their season opener.
“The bottom line, if we hit our free throws, it doesn't go to overtime,” Hustisford girls basketball coach Bob Nass said. “As a team, you can't shoot 50 percent and win many games, especially when you shoot 29 free throws.
“On the bright side, our defense did get considerably better in the second half, especially in the fourth quarter when we held them to nine points. We did do some things well there. I think we learned a lot.”
Hustisford hosts Lake Country Lutheran on Tuesday.
