KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Maranatha Baptist Bible College (Watertown, Wis.) women's soccer team lost in the second round of the NCCAA Division II National Tournament 5-1 to the Southeastern University Fire Saturday.
The Crusaders will now play in the third place game today.
Southeastern outshot the Crusaders 12-4 in the first half and scored the first three goals of the game.
The Crusaders responded with better play in the second half. Two seniors connected to finally put the Crusaders on the scoreboard with 38 minutes, 48 seconds left when Melissa Nichols headed in a pass from Julie Muse. That was the only time the Lady Crusaders converted on offensive opportunities.
Defensively, the Crusaders were led by steady center fullback Lisa Collogan.
“Lisa Collogan has been a warrior,” Maranatha coordinator of soccer Jeff Pill said.
The Crusaders (11-9), who beat North Central University 3-1 in the first round of the tournament, looked to right the ship today when they were scheduled to face Manhattan Christian College in the third-place game at 11 a.m.
