WAUNAKEE - Watertown's girls swim team finished eighth at the Waunakee Invitational on Saturday.
The Goslings managed four top eight finishes on the day.
The 400 medley relay team of Mel Capperino, Hannah Sterling, Zoey Schuck and Fran Altenburg took seventh in 4 minute, 40.23 seconds.
Schuck took sixth in the 100 freestyle in 59.35. Capperino took fifth in the 50 backstroke in 31.82.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Capperino, Carissa Priebusch, Altenburg and Schuck took sixth in 4:10.43.
“A change in format this year hurt us a little,” Watertown girls swim coach Mark Kruse said. “They didn't have the individual medley stuff that they usually do. I center my team around kids that can do IMs. They usually have a freshman-sophomore and junior-senior 100 IM, and a 400 IM relay. This year, it was all just straight 50s and 100s of stroke, free and medley relays.
“We could have done better if the format had stayed the way it was last year. That being said, you deal with things the way they are and do the best you can. After a highly emotional meet they swam Thursday, to come back and swim the way they did Saturday, I was very happy.”
Watertown hosts Beaver Dam on Thursday for Parents Night.
