Maranatha Baptist Bible College announced today that Doug Richards has accepted the position of head wrestling coach for the Crusaders.

Richards, a 1988 graduate of Maranatha, wrestled for Mara-natha Baptist Academy and Maranatha Baptist Bible College.

Richards has 13 years of coaching experience at the high school level including stints as the head wrestling coach at Maranatha Baptist Academy and at Greendale High School. Richards was the head wrestling coach at Maranatha Baptist Academy from 1985-1988 and 2002-2004.

“I love the sport of wrestling and all that it has taught me,” Richards said.

“God has taught me discipline, dedication, hard work, team spirit, leadership, and humility through the sport of wrestling. I hope to use this coaching opportunity to teach men discipline and love for wrestling and for the Lord.”

Richards has served at Maranatha Baptist Bible College since 2002 when he accepted the position of Director of Student Ministries.

Richards has served as the Dean of Students at Maranatha Baptist Bible College since 2004.

Prior to coming back to Maranatha in 2002, Richards served as a youth and assistant pastor in both Wisconsin and Illinois from 1987 to 2002.

Rob Thompson, athletic director at Maranatha, had the following to say: “I am pleased with the hire of Doug Richards, as he will be a great asset to our program. His enthusiasm, wrestling knowledge and character will add stability and strength to the wrestling program as he guides our young men.”
