Night out against crime is planned

LAKE MILLS - On Tuesday, Aug. 5, members of the Lake Mills Police Department invite the community to join together for the 2008 “National Night Out Against Crime."
Attendees will have the opportunity to watch a mock victim extraction, tour the UW MedFlight helicopter, and put out a pretend fire using a real fire hose. The Lake Mills event is planned at the Lake Mills High School from 6 -8:30 p.m.
The UW MedFlight helicopter is scheduled to touch down at 6:40 p.m. behind the high school. The MedFlight crew will be available for questions and tours after they land.
The Lake Mills Fire Department and EMS workers will demonstrate how they extract a victim from a rolled vehicle at 7:30 p.m. Also scheduled to appear are the Scott Null Racing Team and the Madison mallards mascot, Maynard the Mallard. Maynard will be at the event from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
In addition to demonstrations, there will be rolling car seat checks, bike helmet fittings, booths offering free health and safety information, free games and activities for kids, and plenty of food and refreshments available for purchase. There will also be live music, door prizes and a raffle.
Communities nationwide celebrate National Night Out in order to 1) heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, 2) Strengthen police-community partnerships, and 3) increase neighborhood safety awareness.
National project Coordinator Matt Peksin said, “This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation.”
