JUNEAU - Dodge County received 42 applications for its newly created county administrator position, human resources Director Joseph Rains said.
The administrator will be responsible for directing the daily operations of the county's $105 million budget, 15 departments and about 770 employees.
“We have a lot of in-state applicants for the position and some out of state as well,” Rains said.
In March, the county hired a search firm to assist in the hiring process for its first administrator. Springsted, based in St. Paul, Minn., will receive $11,750 and out-of-pocket expenses to assist the county. The full county board voted in January to change its form of government to that of an administrator.
Springsted officials plan to meet in closed session July 3 with members of the county's human resources and labor negotiations committee to review the applicants. “Springsted will recommend about 10 to 12 candidates that the human resources committee will then consider with intent to narrow the field down to five names. Those five names will then be passed on to the executive committee for consideration,” Rains said.
The county administrator will be appointed by the county board and will serve at the board's pleasure.
“We are hoping that the process can be completed and a person on board by around Oct. 1,” Rains said.
The new position will be paid between $85,000 and $110,000, depending on qualifications. The application deadline was June 15.
