April 10, 2008Steven JacobsonSteven Harold Jacobson, 53, of Watertown, formerly of Blair, traveled onward to his place of peace on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at his mother's home in Holmen.
Steve was born to Donald and Twila (Duxbury) Jacobson on Nov. 21, 1954, at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. He graduated from Blair High School in 1972 and from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1977 with a degree in business administration.
Steve entered a career in real estate and soon co-founded Northwest Title and Escrow Company in White Bear Lake, Minn. In 1988, Steve left that lucrative business to pursue a more compelling vision. In 1990, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in social studies education and began a teaching and coaching career at Watertown High School that spanned 18 years.
Steve was well-known for teaching excellence. Whether in the classroom, on the playing field or the basketball court, he had a legendary ability to inspire curiosity and passion.
Steve believed that knowledge about others creates caring and he accomplished this by leading students on innumerable trips abroad. He demonstrated consistently how learning about the world can create a hospitable, enjoyable and peaceful place. Steve easily engaged people of many ages, cultures and dispositions. Children in New Guinea, referees on the basketball floor, exchange students at Friday morning breakfasts - all Steve met were drawn into a world of action, generosity and possibility. And, his varied students learned how to earn friendships at home and abroad.
Though he ventured to the far reaches of this earth, to Steve growing at home was as important as it was overseas. In 1994, with seed money he received from the Joe Darcey Excellence in Teaching award, Steve and his students undertook a monumental task in the creation of the International Peace Garden that graces the grounds of Watertown High School campus.
Steve's life created joy, peace and passion that will live on in many others.
Steve is survived by his mother; four sisters, Judith (Michael) Wellert of Missoula, Mont., Sherry (Patrick) McConnell of Neillsville, Joan (Mark) Olsen of Tulsa, Okla., and Karen (Gary) Rooney of Onalaska; five brothers, Kerry (Mona Vold) Jacobson of Osseo, Kevin Jacobson of Chicago, Ill., John (Michael Mertens) Jacobson of Edgewood, Calif., Jeffrey (Kathy) Jacobson of Platteville and Kent (Debbie) Jacobson of Watertown. Carole F. Krause
WISCONSIN DELLS - Carole F. Krause, born Oct. 1, 1942, peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, April 6, 2008, in the University of Wisconsin Hospital's Pallia-tive Care Unit.
Carole and her husband, Erv, moved from Watertown to Wisconsin Dells in 1976 with their two daughters, Erica and Anna. Carol loved her family and friends and we know there are many fond memories. She loved watching “her birds” and many a squirrel met its demise for eating at her bird feeders.
Carole enjoyed traveling up north to her cabin where she went on animal rides, played a lot of dominoes and laughed a lot. In 2005 she took the trip of her dreams to Alaska with her cousin's family and had a wonderful time.
Throughout Carole's illness she set many goals; from her grandson Gabe's graduation from high school, the birth of Erica's first child, Daniel Erwin born in 2004, and Gabe's return from Iraq in 2006. Her next goal was to be here to see Erica's family adopt a child from Korea. Sadly this was a goal she was unable to obtain.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Harold Krueger; her husband, Erwin D. Krause; and grandson, Elijah Wagner.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia (Krueger) Schneider of Watertown; her daughter, Anna M. Krause of North Freedom; a grandson, Gabriel Teniente of Baraboo; a daughter, Erica J. Krause-Wagner and husband, Andrew, of Lansing, Iowa; a grandson, Daniel of Lansing; and many family and friends.
Our mother's life was richer for her friendship circle, and we are grateful for the care and comfort they provided.
We are very proud of our mother and her very real contribution to cancer research. Her last days we trust were gentle, thanks to wonderful care and good medicine.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Picha Funeral Home, 120 E. Adams St., Lake Delton, and on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, 603 Oak St., Wisconsin Dells, with a memorial service held at 11 a.m. and a luncheon to follow.
