Lois Ada Pieper

Lois Ada (Moldenhauer) Pieper, 83, of Watertown, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007.

She is survived by her beloved children, Karen Sjoberg of Ixonia, Wilbur (Barbara) Pieper of Ixonia, Duane (Pat) Pieper of Farmington and Donna Mae (Steve) Bergdorf of Watertown; grandchildren, Debbie (T.J.) Tranel of Oconomowoc, Todd Pieper of Milwaukee, Katie (Don) Kucken of Ixonia, Gwen (Jeff) Ducett of Oconomowoc, Darrin Sjoberg of Ixonia, John Pieper of Cottage Grove, Jamie (Larry) Losengger of Mt. Horeb, Traci (David) Skolaski of Jefferson, Jon (Connie) Kohlmetz of Watertown and Shannon Bergdorf of Watertown; a brother, Harris (Millie) Moldenhauer of Ashippun; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard, and her parents, Alex and Dorothy Moldenhauer.

She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc and its ladies aid, and the Oconomowoc Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She volunteered at Bethesda Thrift Shop in Watertown.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 210 E. Pleasant St., Oconomowoc, with the Rev. Douglas Fleischfresser and the Rev. Ronald Krug officiating. Interment will be in Glenview Memorial Gardens, Ixonia.

Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Lois was a breast cancer survivor.

Lois enjoyed bowling, rummage sales, music and singing. She was a “people person,” she loved people.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Golden Living Center and Dr. Holden for the wonderful care given to Lois.

Dorothy Schulz

HARTFORD - Dorothy E. Schulz of Hartford passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Aurora Medical Center at the age of 84 years.

She was born Dec. 21, 1922, the daughter of Arthur and Albertina (Jenni) Otte. She married Ruben Schulz on Sept. 21, 1946, and lived at the homestead in Huilsburg until 1996. They then moved to Iron Ridge until February 2007, and then to The Legacy in Hartford.

Dorothy was a member of the Ladies Society and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church for 61 years.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Jeanne; her sisters, Florence Steffan and Bernice Koch; and her brother, Dale Otte.

She was the beloved wife of Ruben; dearest mother of Alice (Alan) Fredrick of Oconomowoc, Marie (Thomas) Taylor of Pewaukee, Thomas (special friend Mary Hermanns) of Fond du Lac and Randall (Tamara) Schulz of Huilsburg; sister-in-law of Wilma Otte of Slinger; precious grandmother of 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home in Hartford and on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huilsburg. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Daniel Falck officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Lee Tyne

MADISON - Lee (Zoelle) Tyne, 98, of Madison, was born to eternal life on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at University Hospital. She led a full and active life until our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, called her home.

Lee was born on June 2, 1909, in Watertown, the daughter of George and Sara (Knoll) Zoelle. She lived most of her life in Sterling, Ill. Lee married Cyril Martin Tyne on Aug. 25, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1974. Lee married Lloyd Van Deburg on Oct. 16, 1993, in Madison.

Lee taught at Thome School in Rock Falls, Ill., until her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Quilters Group in Sterling, Edith Eykamp Circle at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling, the Sterling Garden Club, and Sterling Ladies of Elks. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was active in the Elizabeth Circle, Miriam Circle, Blanket Work Shop, Prayer Shawls Ministry, Luther Campus Ministry and numerous Bible studies.

Lee was devoted to her family, friends and church.

She is survived by a son, Lee (Margaret) Tyne of Menomonee Falls; a daughter, Mary Lou Tyne of Madison; four grandchildren, Elisabeth (David) Jozwiak, Kari Louise Tyne, Shannon (James) Nies, and Michelle (Scott) Selby; six great-grandchildren, Abby and Hannah Jozwiak, Tyner and Jordyn Nies, Tatum Abrams and Bryce Selby; a brother, Charles Zoelle; a sister, Ruth Thies; and husband, Lloyd Van Deburg.

Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 3 p.m. on Thursday with the Rev. William White officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, at 1 p.m. on Friday.

Visitation will be at the church Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Gilbert Guetzlaff

Gilbert A. Guetzlaff, 82, of Watertown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at Watertown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Michael Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Watertown, with graveside military rites conducted by the Watertown American Legion Post No. 189.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Gilbert was born in Watertown on Sept. 1, 1925, son of Arthur and Lydia (Korban) Guetzlaff. Gilbert was raised by his mother, Lydia , and stepfather, Lionel Kuhn.

Gilbert graduated from Watertown High School. On Oct. 20, 1951, he married Colleen Stoppenbach at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown. He had been employed at the former Mid-State Shoe Factory in Watertown and retired on Aug. 1, 1987, from APV Crepaco in Lake Mills. He was currently a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church and a former member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, both in Watertown. He served on various church committees, was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and Watertown American Legion Post No. 189. He enjoyed working with stained glass, sailing and riding his Moped.

Survivors include his children, Gary (Joyce) Guetzlaff of Milwaukee, Constance (David) Meister of Juneau, Glenn Guetzlaff of Watertown, Carol (Eric) Schloesser, of Ixonia and Geoff (Susan Seibel) Guetzlaff of Watertown; nine grandchildren, Jonathan Meister, Jennifer (Scott) Tuchscherer, Joseph Meister, Julie (Ray) Austin, Jaclyn Meister, Jamison Meister, Melissa (Greg) Schmitt, Katie Schloesser and Paul Schloesser; a great-granddaughter, Ava Tuchscherer; and two nephews, Robert (Susan) Pagel and Tim (Cindy) Pagel.

Preceding Gilbert in death were his father and mother; stepfather; his wife, Colleen Guetzlaff on Nov. 14, 1974; and a sister, Beverly Gerth.

John W. Heiser, 50, of Watertown, died on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Stanley Christensen officiating. Burial will be in Glenview Memorial Gardens, Ixonia.

John was born Nov. 13, 1956, in Watertown, son of Gerhard and Ila (Raether) Heiser. He was a graduate of Fort Atkinson High School and married Julie Burns on July 2, 1994, in Madison. He had been a self-employed mechanical designer for many years.

John served in the United States Navy and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Watertown. He loved camping, wood carving, scuba diving, hunting and fishing. He also loved spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Julie Heiser of Watertown; his son, Alex Heiser of Watertown; two brothers, Robert (Mary) Heiser of Oconto and Tom (Barb) Smith of Rhinelander; a sister, Deb (Gary) Borley of Charlotte, N.C.; his mother- and father-in-law, Mike and Sharon Burns of Waunakee; two brothers-in-law, Tim Burns of Waunakee and Jeff (Erin) Burns of Hingham, Mass.; nieces and nephews; a special aunt, Junita Meiter; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy.

SULLIVAN - Clara D. Lindemann, 86, of Sullivan, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Watertown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sullivan with the Rev. Dean Zemple officiating. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday in St. John's Cemetery.

The former Clara Bartelt was born June 9, 1921, in Juneau, daughter of Herman and Olga (Stark) Bartelt. On April 19, 1947, she married Harold C. Lindemann in Juneau. She was a homemaker and member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sullivan and its ladies aid society. She was also a member of the Concord-Sullivan Seniors.

Surviving are her children, John (Susan) Lindemann of Oconomowoc and Jane (Roger) Nehls of Jefferson; three grandchildren, Heidi (Craig) Engel, Aimee Lindemann and Jason (Heidi) Lindemann; and stepgrandchildren, Charity and Lindsay Nehls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and a brother, Raymond Bartelt.

Howard Maertz

Howard L. Maertz, 72, of Watertown, passed from this life to eternal life with Jesus on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, after a long battle with myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of leukemia.

A service of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Brett Brauer officiating. Burial will be in St. John-St. James Cemetery, Reedsville.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, WELS Kingdom Workers, WELS Scholarship Fund or Luther Preparatory School in Watertown.

Howard was born in Manitowoc on March 18, 1935, son of Clarence and Erma (Nicholaus) Maertz. He attended St. John-St. James Lutheran School in Reedsville for his elementary education. Howard graduated from Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown in 1953 and from Dr. Martin Lutheran College in New Ulm, Minn., in 1957. He married Gertrude Siegel on July 6, 1957, at Zion Lutheran Church in Neshkoro.

Howard served as principal, teacher and choir director at Lutheran schools in Watertown, S.D., and West Allis. He had also been employed in the corporate office of Schwan's Sales Enterprises in Marshall, Minn., for over 20 years, until early 1992. He then began working in public relations and fund raising for the Lutheran Home Association in Belle Plaine, Minn. After retiring in March 2003, he and his wife moved to Heritage Homes in Watertown.

Howard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Maertz of Water-town; daughters, Laurel (Jon) Enstad of Andover, Minn., and Shirleen Maertz of Hartland; sons, the Rev. David (Lynn) Maertz of Rapid City, S.D., and Jonathan (Kerry) Maertz of Wauwatosa; 11 grandchildren, Benjamin (Amber), Michael, Sarah, Rachel, Joshua, Abby Enstad, Lauren, Alyssa, Ethan, Ryan and Caden Maertz; a sister, Marlene (Jerald) Glaze; a brother, Ronald (Nancy) Maertz; three brothers-in-law, Gerald (June), John (Sonia) and Thomas (Paula) Siegel; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and his father- and mother-in-law, Ervin and Gertrude Siegel.

ASHIPPUN - Kenneth F. Redlin, 65, of Ashippun, found peace on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, after an accidental fall.

He was the beloved husband of Marion (Braun-schweig) for 41 loving years; dear father of Kristine (Jeff) Schraufnagel of Pewaukee and Dale Redlin of Ashippun; grandfather of Jacob, Lukas and Ella Schraufnagel; brother of Julia (Arthur) Jackson of Hartford, Beatrice Wolfe of Hartford and Rachel Redlin of West Bend; brother-in-law of Helen (Erich) Zellmer of Watertown and Charlotte Redlin of Slinger; also remembered by nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Martin Redlin; a brother-in-law, Leslie Wolfe; and his parents, Norbert and Della Redlin.

Kenneth was born March 23, 1942, in the town of Rubicon. He served in the United States Army. He owned and operated Redlin Farms LLC and had served on the Ashippun town board for many years.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, N1245 Saint John's Way, Ashippun. A funeral service will follow immediately at 7 p.m. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

BEAVER DAM - Joanne B. Broitzman, 60, of Beaver Dam, died suddenly on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Madison.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam with the Rev. Philip Heyer officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery in the town of Portland.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Pederson Funeral Home in Waterloo and at the church on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Joanne was born on Oct. 7, 1947, in Columbus, daughter of Herbert and Grace (Schaller) Meyer.

She was a bindery worker for Royle Printing in Sun Prairie for years and she worked at Perry Printing in Waterloo for many years.

Joanne graduated from Reeseville High School and was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam.

She is survived by a brother, Leo Meyer of Waterloo; a dear friend, Gary Broitzman of Beaver Dam; two stepsisters, Irene (Eugene) Skalitzky of Columbus and Linda (Alan) Hightower of Rochester, N.Y.; four stepbrothers, Howard (Sandra) Abel of Beaver Dam, Norman (Judi) Eggert of Waterloo, Carl (Bonnie) Eggert of Waterloo and John (Marlene) Eggert of Waterloo; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

COLUMBUS - Roland “Rolly” H. Bussian, 60, of Columbus, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at the UW Hospital in Madison from injuries sustained in a job related accident.

Funeral services will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Tom Wilsmann officiating.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Zeidler Funeral Home in Columbus and also on Sunday from noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, town of Leeds, Columbia County.

Roland was born the son of Howard and Elizabeth (Brunker) Bussian on May 21, 1947, in Madison.

Rolly is survived by his children, Dawn (Tim) Huber of Fall River and Brian Bussian of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; his longtime companion, Patricia Heiman and children, Brenda (Tom) Maier of Columbus, Theresa (John) Steindorf of Marshall, Ray (Tina) Rennhack of Columbus and Carl Rennhack of Columbus; grandchildren, Tegan and Hayden Huber, Tom (Michelle) Maier Jr., Josh and Jessie Steindorf and Austin Rennhack; and great-grandson, Jack Maier. He is further survived by his mother, Elizabeth Bussian of Columbus; his sister, Jeanie of Marshall; brothers, Doug (Erin) of Columbus, Rick (Laurie) of Columbus and Roger (Becky) of Fox Lake; several nieces and nephews, aunts and cousins; a brother-in-law, Bob Kleinheinz; and many good friends.

Evelyn Luepke

HUSTISFORD - Evelyn Olga Paulina Luepke passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at Mayville Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 91 years.

She was born Nov. 30, 1915, in Hustisford, daughter of Charles and Ida (Kirchoff) Rantzow. Evelyn was baptized, confirmed, and a lifetime member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. On March 2, 1946, she married Erwin Luepke at Bethany. They farmed most of their lives. Evelyn was a member of Bethany Ladies Aide and Hustisford Legion Auxiliary Unit 420.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin; her brother, Orlando Rantzow; and her great-grandson, Xavier Schultz.

Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Howard Jr.) Schultz of Hustisford and Katherine (Bernard) Gentz of Adams Friendship; grandchildren, William Schultz of Nekoosa, Andrew (Cara) Schultz of Beaver Dam, Melissa Schultz and Jon Schultz of Wisconsin Rapids, Joshua Schultz of Hustisford, Rebecca King of Madison and Jesse (Joanna) Gentz of Clyman; great-grandchildren, Elliott, Emma, Caleb, Luke, Mark, Sharon, Emily Jo, Nigel and Eyan; two sisters-in-law, Mary Anderson of Glenwood City and Frieda Rommelmeyer of Menomonie; and one nephew, Charles Rantzow of Hustisford.

Donald Schwarz

LAKE MILLS - Donald Schwarz, 76, of Lake Mills, died on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Fort Atkinson.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1931, in Holloway, Minn., the son of the late Ferdinand and Agnes (Ruess) Schwarz. He married Mary Bornell of Cambridge on Feb. 12, 1988, in Jefferson.

Donald had been a resident of Lake Mills since early childhood. He had been employed as a grinder at APV Crepaco, retiring in 1998.

Donald was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a 50-year member of the Clarence Bean-Warren George Lake Mills American Legion Post No. 67 and life member of the Waterloo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Lake Mills; three daughters, Suzan (Mark) Erickson of Oshkosh, Jean (Grant) Oestreich and Ann (Jason) Bruenning, both of Lake Mills; two stepchildren, Brad (Liza) Trieloff of Bellingham, Wash., and Cynthia (Charles) Rusch of Fort Atkinson; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Dennis Schwarz of Janesville; two nieces; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Claussen Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Hatfield officiating.

Roy B. Muse

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Roy B. Muse, 76, of Cincinnati, died on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007.

He was the beloved husband of Jean L. Muse (Combs); loving father of Rick (Rosemary) Muse of Water-town, Wis.; dear brother of Ensel (Dorothy) and Winfred (Luella) Muse; grandfather of David (Hannah), Nathan Paul and Juli Beth Muse; brother-in-law of Doris Oberding, Cecil (Marg), Stanley, Juanita, David (Imagene) and the late William Combs Jr.; also survived by five nieces, three nephews, six great-nieces and nine great-nephews.

Muse was very active in the churches he attended, volunteering as an usher, trustee, teacher, puppet ministry and vacation Bible school. He retired after 37 years from Frame Tool and Manufacturing in Cincinnati. He was a Korean War veteran.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 12, in Cincinnati.

Barbara Minning

Barbara A. Minning, 77, of Watertown died on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at her home.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown with the Rev. Thomas Marr of St. Bernard's Catholic Church officiating.

Family and friends may call to pay their respects at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials directed to the family will be used for the Minning Artistic Scholarship Fund or memorials may be given to the Watertown Humane Society or St. Bernard's Catholic Church.

Barbara was born in Watertown on Dec. 4, 1929, daughter of the late Richard J. and Elizabeth (Stacy) Podolske. She married Richard G. Minning on Aug. 6, 1960, in Menominee, Mich.

Barbara attended schools in Watertown, Carroll College in Waukesha, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and had been employed as a medical assistant with Dr. E. Burzynski in Watertown for 31 years.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Minning of Watertown; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Barbara was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Weber; and brothers, George, Richard, Joe and Edward Podolske.

She was the last member of her immediate family.

Loretta A. Stewart, 72, of Watertown, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 23, 2007, at Marquardt Memorial Manor in Watertown.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Bethany Chapel at Marquardt Memorial Manor in Watertown with the Rev. Dr. Rick Brewer officiating. Burial will be at St. Henry Catholic Cemetery in Watertown, with a lunch to follow in the fellowship hall at Christ United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown and at Bethany Chapel on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials are suggested to Marquardt Hospice or Marquardt Memorial Manor.

Loretta was born in Watertown on Sept. 25, 1935, daughter of John F. and Mary J. (Nistler) Heiden. On Oct. 6, 1956, she married Walter E. Stewart Jr. in the parsonage at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown.

Loretta attended St. Henry Catholic grade school and was a 1953 graduate of Watertown High School. Along with being a homemaker, Loretta had been employed at the former Village Black Smith in Watertown and had tended bar at Sunset Bar and Ken's Tap for 25 years.

She was past senior regent of Women of the Moose, Chapter 34, of Watertown; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Henry's Christian Mothers; and had been a Brownie leader. Loretta enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and in the last few years, enjoyed time spent with friends.

She is survived by her husband, Walter E. Stewart of Watertown; a son, John (Carol) Stewart of Watertown; three daughters, Sarah (Mike) Walter of Johnson Creek, Sally (Richard) Rumary of Watertown and Sandra (Brian) Steffen of Watertown; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Charles) Sylvester of North Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Heiden, Janice Appenfeldt and Geneva Stewart, all of Watertown; other relatives and friends.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Francis Heiden; two brothers-in-law, David E. Stewart and Dale E. Stewart; and a sister-in-law, Janet Stewart.

OCONOMOWOC - Erna E. Steffen, 97, of Oconomowoc, died on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at Shorehaven Health and Rehabilitation Center in Oconomowoc.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday at the Pagenkopf Funeral Home, 1165 E. Summit Ave., Highway 67, Oconomowoc, with the Rev. Ronald Krug officiating. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery, town of Summit.

Visitation is at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Erna was born July 9, 1910, in the town of Summit, daughter of Albert E. and Anna (Traeder) Steffen. She had been employed for 46 years at C.W. Brown Printing, Oconomowoc Enterprise, in the accounting department and as office manager and corporate secretary.

Erna was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc, its choir, ladies aid and senior citizens group. She was also a member of AARP and the Oconomowoc Golden Agers.

Surviving are cousins; other relatives; dear friends, Lucille Bendfelt and Mabel Fredrick; and other friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister.

Vincent Stackle

FORT ATKINSON - Vincent J. Stackle, 91, of Fort Atkinson, died on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at the Golden Living Center in Fort Atkinson.

He was born on Dec. 7, 1915, in Oshkosh, son of the late John and Minnie (Schneider) Stackle. Vincent married Joyce Sweet on Sept. 19, 1947, in Beloit. She died on Dec. 31, 1989.

He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.

Vincent was employed by the former Jamesway Manufacturing Company in Fort Atkinson for over 40 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Paul Frank Florine American Legion Post No. 166 and the Edwin Frohmader Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1879.

Survivors include two sons, Vincent C. (Daisy) of Lakewood, Calif., and Michael J. of Fort Atkinson; 10 grandchildren, Craig (Michele), Ryan and Matthew Stackle, Rodney and Chantall Dodd, Shanna, Michael and Christopher Stackle, Britany and Shelby Dragoo; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Cameron Hausz; one brother, John of Bullhead City, Ariz.; one sister, Jean of Watertown; other relatives and friends.

Also preceding in death was a daughter, Michele Dragoo, and two sisters, Marion Lesnick and Harriet Schroeder.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Dunlap Memorial Home with Father Bill Nolan officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be held in Evergreen Cemetery.

Robert I. Mentink, 52, of Watertown, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the lower pavilion at Riverside Park.

Robert was born Oct. 23, 1954, in Oconomowoc, son of Irvin and Ruth (Pegalow) Mentink. He was a 1972 graduate of Oconomowoc High School and worked on oil barges out of Louisiana for many years.

Robert loved jazz music and traveling. He enjoyed playing the trumpet and had a great love for life.

Surviving are two daughters, Stacy (Ivan) Baena of Watertown and Rebecca Mentink of Watertown; two granddaughters, Abigail and Naomi, both of Watertown; other relatives and friends.

Merlin J. Riedl

Merlin J. Riedl, 85, of Watertown, passed away at his home on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, following a short and courageous battle with cancer.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Bernard Rott as celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Henry Catholic Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Watertown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3709.

Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Merlin was born in the town of Ixonia on Sept. 25, 1922, son of the late Henry and Anna (Motl) Riedl. He married the former Mary Bliefernicht on Nov. 25, 1944, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Richwood. Mary preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 1999.

Merlin had been employed by various contractors for numerous years. In 1954, he and his brother formed the Riedl Brothers Home Construction Company in Watertown, which was in business for more than 20 years. He then worked for the Watertown school system in the maintenance department for 15 years, retiring in October 1986.

Merlin was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown, Branch No. 120 Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and a former member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a former charter member of the Richwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3709 of Watertown, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of AARP. He served in World War II in Germany, receiving the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars for action. Merlin had also been a prisoner of war in Germany.

He enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, wood crafts and playing cards. Merlin was also a regular blood donor, donating 14 gallons.

Survivors include his daughters, Patricia (John) Bredow of Watertown and Dianne (Paul) Klarkowski of Oconomowoc; a son, Michael (Jean) Riedl of Oregon; four grandsons; two granddaughters, four great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons; a brother, Leon (Lorraine) Riedl of Watertown; a sister, Margaret (Herbert) Schroedl of Jefferson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin, Norbert, Clarence and Sylvester, and his grandson, Jason Bredow.

Gregory was born on Jan. 18, 1955, in Beaver Dam, son of Harold and Eunice (Klatt) Lehmann. He attended Zion Lutheran Grade School in Clyman and was a 1973 graduate of Dodgeland High School in Juneau. He had been employed by Aunt Nellie's, now Seneca Foods, in Clyman for over 20 years.

Gregory was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Clyman and the Clyman Fire Department for many years. He loved to travel, making numerous trips throughout the world. He enjoyed baking cakes, especially wedding cakes, and was an avid card player.

He is survived by his parents, Harold and Eunice Lehmann of Clyman; a sister, Pamela (Bill) Panetti of Juneau; three brothers, Steven (Sue Budewitz) Lehmann of Watertown, Ron (Kim) Lehmann of Hustisford and Russell (Teresa) Lehmann of Watertown. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gregory was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and a niece, Courtney Lehmann.

SUN PRAIRIE - Ann J. Cowen, 81, died on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison.

She was born on Oct. 1, 1926, in Waterloo and was the daughter of John and Mary (Sherrow) Gassen. She married Patrick Cowen in Waterloo on Sept. 6, 1948.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Beverly) Cowen of Beaver Dam, Karen (Theodore) Maasch of Las Vegas, Nev., Christine (William) Woolever of Pardeeville, Patrick (Barbara) Cowen of Sun Prairie, Mary Kopmeyer of Princeton, Iowa, Colleen Serra of Chewelah, Wash., Virginia (Jon) Robinson of Pardeeville, Theresa (John) Kruse of Sun Prairie, and Craig Cowen of Sun Prairie; a daughter-in-law, Lois Cowen of Madison; 33 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Dantuma of Watertown and Martha Randall of Beloit.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Dennis; and a granddaughter, Maryanna Maasch.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 227 Columbus St., Sun Prairie, with Father Michael Radowicz officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Hearts Cemetery, Sun Prairie.

JUNEAU - Barbara M. Walsh of Juneau passed away at the Golden Living Center in Beaver Dam on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007.

She was born Aug. 3, 1930, in Pontiac, Mich., the daughter of Eldred and Alberta Beard. On July 7, 1950, she married Lawrence R. Walsh at St. John's Catholic Church in Clyman.

She is survived by her children, James (Debra) Walsh of Georgia, Nora Steiner of Beaver Dam, Donna (Mark) Smith of Brooklyn, Richard (Linda) Walsh of Mayville, and Gary (Annette) Walsh of Juneau; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Shirley Welch, Elsie Welch and Donna (Paul) Witt, all of Michigan.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence R. Walsh.

Barbara served in the Juneau American Legion Auxiliary for over 30 years. She enjoyed playing sheepshead with friends in Juneau. Barbara was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Juneau. She worked at Clearview Nursing Home for many years.

Marilyn J. Knackert, 61, of Watertown, passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at her home, following a three year battle with lung cancer. She did not smoke.

Marilyn was born on June 30, 1946, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Merle and Eunice (Reindl) Wolfe. On Oct. 9, 1971, she married Randall Knackert in Coronado, Calif. She had been employed for Education Assessment Services/Dr. Sylvia Rimm for 17 years. Marilyn was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Clyman and was a founding member of the Watertown Genealogical Society. She enjoyed motorcycle riding, kayaking, traveling, genealogy, sewing and managing the 45 RPM rock band.

Survivors include her husband Randall; her mother Eunice Wolfe of Milwaukee; her children, Joseph Slowikowski of Ocala, Fla., Jeremy Knackert of Phoenix, Ariz., and Angela (Jerry) Schulz of Janesville; grandchildren Sarah and Hannah Slowikowski; sisters, Dolores (Carl) Hansen-Nelson of California, Diane Wolfe of Hawaii, Beverly Braasch of Delafield and Janet Nuszbaum of Nevada; her dear companion Lucy; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Merle Wolfe.

BEAVER DAM - Harold W. Frank, 96, of Beaver Dam, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam.

Private family graveside services will be held on Saturday in Oak Hill Cemetery, Waterloo, with the Rev. Mark Swanson officiating.

Harold W. Frank was born the son of William and Amelia (Klitzman) Frank on Oct. 4, 1911, in Marshall. He was married to Elizabeth Stenberg on Oct. 24, 1935, in Waterloo.

Harold had been employed as an inspector at Midstate Shoe Factory in Waterloo for many years. He was a member of Trinity Church-United Methodist in Beaver Dam. He had also been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge in both Waterloo and Beaver Dam.

Harold is survived by his niece, Donna (Eugene) Frodl of Whitewater; two brothers-in-law, Richard (Sharon) Stenberg of Beaver Dam and John Stenberg of Waterloo; sister-in-law, Lorraine Frank of DeForest; and close family friend, George Kiraly of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth in 2001; two sisters and two brothers.

Gerald C. Haas

JEFFERSON - Gerald “Jerry” C. Haas, 76, of Jefferson, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at his home.

He was born on March 24, 1931, in Jefferson, son of the late Aloysius M. and Mary (Kemmeter) Haas. He married Gloria Borck on Oct. 13, 1951, in Jefferson.

Jerry had been employed by the Jefferson County Highway Department until his retirement in 1993. He also served in the Army National Guard for 11 years.

Jerry was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson, where he served as an usher. He was a fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria of Jefferson; a daughter, Mary (Jeffrey) Sharlow of Jefferson; two sons, Jeffrey (Diane) Haas of Jefferson and Daniel (Bunny) Haas of Jefferson; seven grandchildren, Daniel II (Carrie) Haas, Jason Haas, Sarah Haas, Emily (Jonathan) Lembrich, Morgan Sharlow, Nicholas Haas, Natalie Haas; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Bieck and Caleb Lembrich; five sisters, Lorraine Werner of Minocqua, Ethel Carnes of Minocqua, Elaine (LaVern) Jung of Adams-Friendship, Margaret (Norbert) Wedl of Sun City, Ariz., and Carol (David) Kemmerer of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Donald (Marion) Haas of Cudahy and Allie (Stella) Haas of Watertown; many nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends, including special friends, Larry and Peg Richter and Roger and Ann Weilbacher.

HUSTISFORD - Eugene O. Uecker of Hustisford passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at the age of 80 years.

He was born March 20, 1927, the son of Erwin and Hazel (Breitkreutz) Uecker. On Aug. 7, 1948, he married Lorraine Schwantes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; his daughter-in-law, Carol Uecker; and two brothers, Virgil and Orlando.

He was the loving father of Richard (Sandra) Uecker of Hustisford, Larry (Barbara) Uecker of Neosho, Dennis Uecker of Hustisford, Mark (Anne) Uecker of St. Francis and Lori Uecker of Hustisford; precious grandfather of Derrick (Laurie) Uecker of Clyman, Faith Uecker of Hustisford, Staci (Tim) Metz of Hartford, Tom (Shalyn) Uecker of Hustisford, Annie (Rev. Ben) Schmeling of Canada, Mary Uecker of Neosho, Ashley Uecker of Hustisford and Anna Uecker of St. Francis; dearest great-grandfather of seven great-grandchildren. He was also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Eugene served his country in the United States Army during the Korean police action. He was a lifetime member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on its board of trustees. He was a member of the Hustisford Concertina Club and served with the Hustisford Fire Department for 20 years.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 269 N. Lake St., Hustisford. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Timothy Bauer officiating. Interment will be in Hustisford Cemetery.

Wilhelmina Frances Streh-low, 94, of 1020 Hill St., Watertown, died on Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Marquardt Manor.

The former Wilhelmina Eckert was born Feb. 8, 1913, in South Dakota, daughter of August and Olga (Tillmann) Eckert. She married Henry Gerdes on Nov. 9, 1932, in Wilmot, S.D. He preceded her in death in 1970. She married Clarence Strehlow on May 4, 1979 in Iron Ridge.

Wilhelmina was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sugar Island and a former member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in Iron Ridge, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Woodland and Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hustisford.

Wilhelmina lived in South Dakota until 1937, when she moved to Woodland, and later to Hustisford, Iron Ridge, Ashippun and Water-town.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Beatrice Eckert of Watertown, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was further preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence in 1996; four sisters, Emma Griener, Sophia Albert, Mae Ewert and Frieda Kleinheinz; and a brother, William Eckert.

CLYMAN - Stanley Szerbat of Clyman passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at the age of 82 years.

He is survived by his wife, Louise M. (Brotzel); his children, Suzanne (Daniel) Blanchard of New Berlin, Donna King of Mukwonago, Cynthia (Steven) Geis of Watertown and Mark (Vicki) Szerbat of Greenfield; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Florence Borlick of Green-field, Virginia Krajewski of Greenfield and Shirley (Edward) Baronowski of Wauk-esha; also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Edward Krajewski.

Stanley was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific conflict in Okinawa, Guadalcanal and Ryukyu.

JEFFERSON - Tyler J. Kreklow, 17, of Jefferson, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1990, in Fort Atkinson, son of James and Vickie (Varah) Kreklow.

Tyler was a senior at Jefferson High School and a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson. He was employed at Frank's County Market in Jefferson.

Tyler loved life and he enjoyed playing basketball, soccer with friends, and on the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department teams. He had been part of the Badger State Soccer team for the past three years. He enjoyed fishing and hanging out with his friends.

He is survived by his parents, James and Vickie Kreklow of Jefferson; his paternal grandmother, Janet Kreklow of Jefferson; his maternal grandmother, Marjorie Varah of Fort Atkinson; one sister, Alyssa Kreklow of Jefferson; two brothers, Cory Kreklow and Justin Kreklow, both of Jefferson; many other relatives, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Willard Kreklow and Leonard Varah.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Comstock officiating. Burial will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.

Robert I. Mentink, 52, of Watertown, died on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at his home.

Robert was born Oct. 23, 1954, in Oconomowoc, son of Irvin and Ruth (Pegalow) Mentink. He was a 1972 graduate of Oconomowoc High School and worked on oil barges out of Louisiana for many years.

He loved jazz music and traveling. He enjoyed playing the trumpet and had a great love for life.

Lance A. Pirkel, 39, of Watertown, passed away following an apparent heart attack on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at Watertown Memorial Hospital. Lance's final act was to give the gift of life through tissue donation.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Watertown with the Rev. Lee Meissner officiating. Burial will be in Glenview Memorial Gardens, Ixonia.

Visitation will be at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Lance was born on Dec. 19, 1967, in Watertown, the son of James and Michele “Mitch” (Lewandowski) Pirkel. He was a 1986 graduate of Watertown Senior High School. Lance was also a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a degree in park and recreation administration. He was employed by Tim Theder Landscaping of Watertown.

Lance was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Watertown. He played baseball and basketball for Watertown High School and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He pitched and played first base for numerous baseball teams including the Watertown Cardinals and the Helenville Rebels.

Lance was an avid hunter and Wisconsin sports fan. He especially enjoyed the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.

Lance is survived by his parents, Jim and Mitch Pirkel of Watertown; one sister, Lori (Randy) Wegner of Concord; two nieces, Kendall and Molly Wegner of Watertown; aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ray and Erma Lewandowski, and his paternal grandparents, Francis and Adela Pirkel.

Adelbert “Del” E. Stueber, 77, of Watertown, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at his home.

Del was born on May 19, 1930, in Richwood, son of Otto and Hattie (Kelm) Stueber. On Aug. 8, 1954, he married Lorraine Frentzel at St. John's Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Del worked at the Village Blacksmith before entering the United States Army in August 1951. He fought with the Korean Combat Infantry Badge as a sergeant, and was stationed at Camp Carson, Colo. Del was honorably discharged in May 1953. Upon his return from the service, he worked at Karbergs for 11 years as a mechanic and then worked as a postman until his retirement on May 19, 1990. For the last eight years, he worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart in Watertown.

Del was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Stueber; four sons, Lloyd (Chris) Stueber of Watertown, Glenn (fiancee Bonnie Harr) Stueber of Appleton, Wayne (Donna) Stueber of Marion, and Brian (Terry) Stueber of Reeseville; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Schmoldt; one brother, Harold (Marie) Stueber; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

BEAVER DAM - Clara L. Borchardt, 91, of Beaver Dam, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2007.

Clara was born on March 8, 1916, in Watertown, daughter of Emil and Mabel (Ross) Ihde. On April 29, 1943, she married Gerhard “Gary” H. Borchardt at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Watertown. She was a graduate of Watertown High School.

Clara had been employed in the kitchen at St. Mary's Hospital in Watertown and was a nursing assistant at Shorehaven in Oconomowoc for many years.

She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown and its ladies aid society, and AARP in Watertown. She enjoyed crafts, cooking, and playing cards.

Clara is survived by a daughter, Darlene (special friend Merlin Pieper) Budde of Beaver Dam; two grandchildren, Scott (Bonnie) Budde of Beaver Dam and Pamela (Gregory) Ludowese of Beaver Dam; four great-grandchildren, Mara Budde, Riley Budde, Nicholas Ludowese and Nathan Ludowese, all of Beaver Dam; and other relatives and friends.

Larry is survived by two sons, John Klingbell and Jeffery Klingbell, both of Mukwonago; a sister, Doris Olsen of Laurinburg, N.C.; a brother, Bernard Klingbell of Ixonia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Shirley A. Saniter, 78, of Watertown passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 11, 2007, at her home.

Shirley was born in Hartford on April 30, 1929, daughter to Fred and Mary (Wilke) Krubsack.

On June 11, 1949, she married Melvin L. Saniter at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ashippun.

Shirley handled the accounting work at the former Saniter Tool & Machine Company, Inc. until it closed. She had also been employed in retail sales at the former Farmer's Cheese Store, later named Stallman's Cheese Store in Watertown, until it closed.

She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, its Altar Guild, on the accounting committee and was a member of the Watertown Country Club. Shirley was an avid golfer, enjoyed vacations and life to the fullest. She was a very up beat and social person and cared about people very much. Shirley had many friends and was a very giving person. She will be missed by so many people.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Ron) Johnson of Dodgeville, Deborah (Peter) Kreuziger of Watertown; four grandchildren, Brian Riesen, Brad (Laura) Riesen, Travis “T.J.” (Lisa) Kreuziger, Nicole (Scott Ciulla) Kreuziger; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Brock, Alexis, Marin, Brecken Riesen; a sister, Mary Ann (Donald) Schmitt of Oconomowoc; sisters-in-law, Joyce Saniter, Beverly Saniter, Edina Macleod, all of Watertown; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

WAUWATOSA - Helen M. (Bossmann) Traeger was born to eternal life on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at the age of 95 years.

Howard Schwartz

Howard F. Schwartz, 82, of Watertown, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Shorehaven in Oconomowoc.

Howard was born on May 14, 1925, in the town of Bristol, son of Fred and Anna (Keppert) Schwartz. He enlisted in the United States Army on Sept. 22, 1943, in Marshfield and received an honorable discharge.

On June 16, 1946, he married the former Valeta Valaskey at Trinity Lutheran Church in the town of Lowell. Howard had served an electrical apprenticeship from 1944 to 1948 with Riverside Electric of Watertown. He continued and obtained his journeyman license. He joined the Electrical Workers union in Milwaukee and worked at large jobs wiring places like St. Claire's Hospital in Monroe, Northwestern College, Miller Brewery, Buscyrus Erie, Oconomowoc Hospital, Parker Pen, Hartland High School and Janesville Sand and Gravel. He obtained his contractor's license and opened his own business from 1958 to 1972. He was the Watertown electrical and building inspector from 1972 to 1976 and was then plant electrician for Johnson Controls until his retirement. After retirement he helped Horton Electric on a part-time basis.

Howard was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Columbus from 1925 to 1946 and then St. John's Lutheran Church in Watertown from 1946 to the present. He was a former member of the Watertown American Legion Post No. 189, Watertown Elks Lodge No. 666 and Watertown Country Club. Howard loved his home and taking care of the yard and gardening.

His hobby was woodworking and he made many beautiful things out of oak, walnut and pine, which he would give away, not sell. He especially loved to make beautiful things for his wife which she cherishes. He enjoyed dancing, music, country shows, his Airstream and traveling to Las Vegas, Branson, Nashville, Florida, Arizona and a Caribbean cruise.

Survivors include his wife, Valeta; a son, Dennis Schwartz of Watertown; a grandson, Jason Schwartz; a great-grandson, Jay Schwartz of Watertown; one niece, Suzanne Lendborg; six nephews, David Schwartz, Fred Schwartz, Fred Lendborg, Stephen Lendborg, Daniel Lendborg and Lawrence Lendborg; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Gertrude Lendborg; two brothers, Ralph Schwartz and Alfred Schwartz.

Merril was a graduate of Hawkins High School in northern Wisconsin. He served in the United States Army and was director of management information ser-vices for American Breeders Service in DeForest, Stoppenbach Foods in Jefferson and Doskocil Food Groups for many years. He was a member of St. John's Luth-eran Church in Waterloo.

Merril was an avid Packer, Brewers and Badgers fan, and enjoyed raising Arabian horses and Irish setters. He was proud of his Irish heritage.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Farmington and a former member of the Ixonia Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting, but his greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughters.

Robert C. Willey

LAKE MILLS - Robert C. Willey, 73, of Lake Mills, died on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 22, 1934, in Whitewater, the son of the late Silas and Mildred (Ridgely) Willey. He married the former Rose Smith of Hartford on Feb. 8, 1958.

Bob owned and operated Big Bobber's Bait & Tackle in Lake Mills. He had also been employed at Miller Auto Parts, Wisconsin Marine and Watertown Metals for 13 years. He also had broadcast the Fishing Report for WTTN Radio there.

Bob served in the United States Army for 20 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Mills, the Clarence Bean-Warren George Lake Mills American Legion Post No. 67, the Endl-Gruennert Jefferson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3589, Knights of Columbus Council No. 6690, NRA, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting. In 2004 he participated in the Handicapped Hunt and also was on the cover of the 2005 Deer Report.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Rose of Lake Mills; four sons, Ronald of Allentown, Pa., Ralph (Nicole) and Robin (Shannon), both of Lake Mills, and Ryan of Fort Atkinson; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Kyle, Brittney Rose, Benjamin, Kaleb, and Alexis Rose; two stepgrandchildren, Brianna and Kayla; three brothers, Donald (Hildred) of Waupun, Francis of Palmyra and Silas (Marilyn) of Lincoln, Ark.; other relatives and friends.

LAKE MILLS - Larry L. Moldenhauer, 68, of Lake Mills, died on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at home.

Larry was born on June 28, 1939, in Watertown, son of the late Roy and Elaine (Punzel) Moldenhauer. He was a 1957 graduate of Watertown High School. He married RuthAnn Oemig of Lake Mills on Oct. 14, 1961, in Lake Mills.

Larry had been employed by the Jefferson County Highway Department. He served in the U.S. Army.

Larry was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Larry especially like doing things with his granddaughter.

Maurice J. Neverman

Maurice J. Neverman, 85, of Watertown, found eternal rest as he passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007. He had spent the previous day harvesting fruits and vegetables from his gardens with help of friends and neighbors.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Pastor Terry Larson will preside.

“Red” was born Oct. 18, 1921, in Postville, Iowa, son of Lester and Velma (Brandt) Nevermann. He graduated from Postville High School and attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He married Myrle Albaugh on July 31, 1943, at her family farm in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.

From 1947 to 1981 Red worked in the artificial breeding industry in cattle. He started as a barn cleaner and rose to national sales manager with Carnation Breeding Service, part of the multi-national Carnation Co. Carnation brought him to Watertown in 1968.

After he was laid off in a corporate merger, Maurice started several businesses in Watertown, finishing his working career with his son, Don, in 2002 at Pacesetter Prompt Printing, Inc.

Red took a great deal of pride in the many technical innovations and industry firsts that he took part in. He took part in the experimentation that led to the freezing of semen. He traveled to South America to export frozen semen. While with Carnation, he researched and imported some of the first “exotic” breeds such as Flekvieh, Gelbvieh and Simmental to the United States.

Red and Myrle had four children, Diane Neverman-Bailey of Phoenix, Ariz., Duane (Chris) of Trenton, Maine, Doug (Sally) of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Don (Kathy) of Watertown. He also had 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, with another expected in November. He took great pleasure and pride in his family. He is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Anderson of Waukon, Iowa, and Ardis Johnson of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister-in-law, LouDene Neverman of Jesup, Iowa; and an aunt, Audrey Schroeder of Postville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his wife.

Since the passing of his wife Myrle, Maurice has found great joy in his gardens, producing many fruits, vegetables and blossoms. During inclement weather, he spent his time researching the descendants of Zachariah Ahlbach, putting over 34,000 names into one descendancy chart.

Maurice was also lucky in finding a second love in his life, Marilyn Bielski of Lake Geneva. Maurice and Marilyn spent a great deal of time traveling together over the years. They went to Phoenix in the winters and visited family and friends for life's special moments.

Gordon C. Behling

MADISON - Gordon C. Behling, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg.

Gordon was born on Nov. 11, 1923, in Johnson Creek, the son of Arnold and Alice (Block) Behling. He served his country and his fellow man as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He was a POW in Barth, Germany, before being liberated in 1945. He received his BA degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1948.

Gordon married the former Margie King on March 31, 1951.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and had been employed by the University of Wisconsin Extension as director of administration until his retirement in 1984.

Gordon is survived by two nieces, Janice M. Smith and her son, Todd (Jill Bradshaw) Smith, and their children, Samuel, Sydney, Avery and Allison, and niece Sandra (Ronald) Robran and their children, Kristin and Rebecca Robran.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Margie.

FOND DU LAC - Robert M. Witthuhn, 87, of 519 Luco Road, Apartment 260, Lakeview Estates, Fond du Lac, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1920, in Shiocton, son of Arnold Witthuhn and Susie Johnson Witthuhn Andrews. On Sept. 4, 1948, Robert married Lucy K. Colburn at the old Community United Methodist Church building in North Fond du Lac.

Robert served in the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific Theater from September 1942 to December 1945.

He retired from Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company in December 1985.

Robert was a member of Community Methodist Church, North Fond du Lac, and served as a treasurer on the church board and served on other committees. He was also a national member of AARP and a member of the local AARP Chapter 614. Robert was a member of American Legion Post No. 2930 of Portage. He was an honorary life member of Communications Workers of America and a member of Dairyland Council Life Member Club of Telephone Pioneers of America, where he served as board president. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America and served as Cubmaster and on several committees.

He is survived by two sons, Jay (Nancy) Witthuhn of Thornton, Colo., and Daniel (Lori) Witthuhn of Watertown; a daughter, Ann (Bob) Harshbarger of Fond du Lac; three grandchildren, Kathryn and Kristine Harshbarger and Dan Witthuhn; a stepsister, Lorrayne Hoewisch; a sister-in-law, Joyce Witthuhn; a stepbrother-in-law, Carlyle Manley; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucy, on Oct. 28, 2004; a brother, Glen Witthuhn; four stepbrothers and two stepsisters.

There will be a private graveside service and inurnment on Wednesday in Oak Hill Cemetery, Neenah. The family will greet family and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Mach Funeral Chapel, 31 E. Division St., Fond du Lac.

JEFFERSON - Joan G. Haas, 73, of Jefferson, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at Countryside Nursing Home in Jefferson.

She was born on May 16, 1934, in Jefferson, daughter of the late Harold and Josephine (Bauer) Zimmer-man. She married Russell Haas on Aug. 5, 1950, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1994.

She and her husband owned and operated J & R Cleaning in Jefferson for many years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson and the VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by five daughters, Barbara (Milton) Blumenberg of Hatfield, Jaquiline (Dale) Naatz of Watertown, Jennifer (Robert) Reel of Las Vegas, Nev., Susan (Roger) Brunk of Johnson Creek and Shirley (Todd) Bonack of Sanford, N.C.; five sons, Robert (Peggy) Haas of Jefferson, Russell Haas Jr. of Jefferson, James (Sharon) Haas of Fort Atkinson, Matthew (Cindy) Haas of Waterloo and Bryan Haas; 28 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon on Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

MADISON - Jeffrey P. Liaromatis, 46, of Madison, died on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, unexpectedly at his home.

Jeffrey was born on Dec. 7, 1960, in Illinois, the son of Donald and Laura (Maine) Liaromatis.

Jeff attended Johnson Creek High School. He had been employed at the Central Warehouse in Watertown as a supervisor.

He is survived by a daughter, Tiffany Walcott of Watertown; four grandchildren, Alexis Weiss, Noah Walcott, Taylor Walcott and Kaylee Walcott; two sisters, Suzy of Palatine, Ill., and Marlee Liaromatis of Adams-Friendship; one brother, David (Carrie) Liaromatis of England; his ex-wife, Julie Pillsbury of Watertown; and other relatives and friends.

Jeff will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends and he will never be forgotten. His memory will live on in all of those who knew him.

Hope. G. Boeder, 66, of Madison, died on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at University Hospital in Madison.

The former Hope G. Kienast was born on Jan. 24, 1941, daughter of Frank and Winifred (Nicholson) Kienast. On Feb. 22, 1960, she married Gilbert Boeder at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Hope was a homemaker and business manager of Boeder Painting.

Hope is survived by her daughters, Carmen (Eugene “Rocky”) Sjoberg and Vanessa Cepeda, both of East Troy; a brother, Robert (Edie) Kienast of Iowa; four grandchildren, Alicia Sjoberg, Amanda Sjoberg, Manases Cepeda, and Brock Boeder.

Viola A. Genz, 99, of Watertown, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, following a brief illness.

The former Viola Aleta Kroll was born on June 21, 1908, in the town of Concord, daughter of William H. and Martha (Zastrow) Kroll. On May 20, 1928, she married Martin H. Genz at Cross Lutheran Church in Ixonia. Martin preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1990.

Viola was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown. She enjoyed gardening and baking.

Viola loved Sunday afternoon visits with her family.

Survivors include four daughters, Arletta (Elmer) Lauersdorf of Neosho, Irma Schwartz of Ixonia, Doris (Rolland) Ruckdaschel of Fort Atkinson and Lucille (Don) Kuehl of Lebanon; nine sons, Armin (Evelyn) Genz of Watertown, Gordon (Alice) Genz of Lake Mills, Fredrick (Janet) Genz of Ixonia, Robert Genz of Watertown, Ward (Karen) Genz of Watertown, Eugene (Dor-othy) Genz of Ixonia, Martin Jr. (Christine) Genz of Pipersville, John (Vickie) Genz of Helenville and Neal Genz of Watertown; 40 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. She was also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Kroll of Florida and Florence Kroll of Oconomowoc; and her good friend, Viola Zimmerman.

Gervase Jaehrling

Gervase J. Jaehrling, 78, of Watertown, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at St. Luke's in Milwaukee following a brief illness.

“Jarv” was born on July 17, 1929, in Watertown, son of Leonard and Anna (Torpy) Jaehrling. He attended grade school at St. Bernard's Catholic School and graduated from Watertown High School. He worked at Brandt Automatic Cashier for 43 years as a draftsman.

He married Karen Eames on Aug. 12, 1961, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Gervase was the beloved father of Teresa, Donna and Paul. Gervase was a lifetime member of St. Bernard's and was a member of the choirs for many years. His hobbies included model-building and bicycle riding.

Gervase was well-known as one of Santa's helpers for families and organizations in the Watertown area. His interests included Watertown history, trains, trucks and airplanes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his only son, Paul Vincent (May 1, 1983).

He is survived by Karen, his loving wife of 46 years; his sister, Rita Jaehrling of Watertown; his two daughters, Teresa (Ron) Smithrud of Janesville and Donna Jaehrling of Janesville; and by two grandchildren, Erika Terese Smithrud and Nicholas Paul Smithrud of Janesville.

Gervase will be greatly missed by his family and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church with Father Thomas Marr officiating. Family burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

WATERLOO - Emma C. Behling, 89, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Columbus Nursing and Rehabilitation due to the infirmities of age.

The former Emma Huber was born Dec. 25, 1917, in Dane County, daughter of Michael and Mary (Meindel) Huber. She married Oscar Behling Nov. 21, 1932, in the parsonage of St. John's Lutheran Church in Newville.

A homemaker, Emma and her husband farmed in the Waterloo and Marshall area for most of their lives. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Deerfield and loved to bake, cook and garden.

Surviving are two daughters, Ruth Yerges and Bonnie (Jerry) Sauer, both of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Herbert (Helen) Huber of Madison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Carolyn Pribbenow and Evelyn Wilke; her parents; three brothers; and four sisters.

Robert Doubleday

Robert L. Doubleday, 80, of Medford, Ore., died at his home on Friday, Sept. 14, 2007.

Robert was born on Sept. 1, 1927, in Watertown, son of Louis and Hannah Doubleday. His last year at Watertown High School, he enlisted in the Marines. Upon completion of duty, he worked for Wisconsin Gas and Electric and Wisconsin Electric Power as a lineman.

In 1964, he moved his family to Cottonwood, Ariz., where he worked as a lineman for Arizona Public Service. He moved to Gold Beach, Ore., in 1974 and became a general contractor and master woodworker.

Robert is survived by his wife, Dolores of Medford; a daughter, Linda Fitzgerald of Davenport, Iowa; and two sons, Dan of Treasure Island, Fla., and Scott of Central Point, Ore.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nancy (Frank) Griep and Joan Fendt of Watertown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Hannah Doubleday; three sisters, Mildred (Arnold) Wirth, Marian Doubleday and Lois (Ben) Grulkowski; and two brothers, Eugene and Roger.

Cremation and burial took place in Medford.

Harold Baumann

Harold A. Baumann, 78, of Watertown, passed away on Sunday morning, Sept. 30, 2007, at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lebanon with the Rev. James O'Reilly-Christensen officiating. Burial will be in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Lebanon.

Harold Arthur Baumann was born on Sept. 15, 1929, in Lebanon, son of Fred W. and Louise (Minning) Baumann. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School in Lebanon and was a graduate of Watertown High School. On Sept. 23, 1950, Harold married the former Marjorie Kuehl at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Lebanon.

Harold farmed until his retirement at the age of 62. He had also been employed part-time at Holz Motors Inc. in Watertown for 15 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Lebanon, where he held many offices in the church and school. Harold was vice president of Watertown Musicians Association Local No. 469. He enjoyed playing softball and was a mean pitcher in Watertown, Lebanon and Ixonia. He bowled the Lebanon Spot League at Ashippun and Hustisford as well as the Saturday Night Couples League and Tuesday Senior League. They won many championships in all their leagues. Harold had also been a member of the Lebanon Fire Department.

Music was a big part of Harold's life. He was blessed with the ability to play a wide variety of instruments and musical styles, some instruments with formal training and others self taught, from clarinet and saxophone, to the bass drum and stump fiddle.

From its very beginning over 40 years ago, Harold was one of the original members of the Yankee Dutchman Solar Powered Precision Marching Band, participating in parades across the state. His dear friend, Will Eske, who passed just last week, was the leader of the band, and Harold was the heartbeat, ever present on the bass drum. We can hear them together now, playing “Jingle Bells” in the middle of summer.

For many years, Harold played with the Oconomowoc Legion Band, participating in numerous national award winning competitions, playing in major events across the country to include the 1959 Rose Bowl Parade. In his earlier years, Harold played with the Lebanon Band, the Will Eske Orchestra, the Jimmy Hartwig Orchestra and many others.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie of Watertown; four children, Joan (Daniel) Oestreich, Joyce (Howard) Gutzdorf and John (Lynn) Baumann, all of Watertown, and Jane (Craig) Bentz of Park Falls; eight grandchildren, Aaron (Catherine) Oestreich, Michael (Jessica) Oestreich, Rebekah Oestreich, Karrisa (Michael) Hurtgen, Rachel Gutzdorf, Brent Baumann, Courtney Baumann and Kylee Bentz; five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Margaret, Jayda, Jasmyn and Carsten. He is further survived by a sister, Meta Turke, and a brother, Waldemar (Gladys) Baumann of Watertown; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, William Turke.

Jim Zimmerman

Jim “Zimmy” H. Zimmerman, 50, of Watertown, was called home to his Father on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at the Don & Marilyn Anderson Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg. He ended his courageous three-year fight that started with a brain tumor leading to pneumonia complications.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Watertown with the Rev. James Werner officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service.

Jim was born on Nov. 28, 1956, at St. Mary's Hospital in Watertown, son of Harvey and Shirley (Tiews) Zimmerman. He married Judy Engel on Oct. 26, 1985. They would have been married 22 years. Jim had been employed at North Star Print Group for 17 years.

Jim was a very devoted husband and father to his three children. He loved his family vacations up north, to Disney, and fishing trips. He enjoyed watching his children participate in sports at school but was even more thrilled when he could join in at home. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewer fan. He had a love for dogs, and especially his best friend, Winston (who was an Airedale).

Jim was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church where he enjoyed his ushering duty. He played softball and bowled in a league. Jim had a great love for his garden and his flowers which were admired by many.

Jim will leave behind his loving wife, Judy of Watertown; their daughters, Jamie and Jodi; their son, Justin; one grandchild, Nicholas; a sister, Daisy Beck; a special friend, Roger Kylmanen; a brother, Dale (Debra) Zimmerman of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sandy Padol; a nephew, Jason Beck; and his father-in-law, Russel Engel.

Jim's courage and fight was truly an inspiration to all the lives he touched on his journey. The family would like to thank Dr. Alan Lozier who was with us from the beginning and whom the family called Jim's guardian angel; St. Mary's Hospital staff; Dan and Erik (the hospital therapy dog); Clearview; Countryside Nursing Home; Mayville Nursing Home; the Hospice Center; St. Mark's pastors; family, friends, co-workers and neighbors for all the prayers and support along the way.

CONCORD - Merlin “Mert” Moldenhauer, 76, of the town of Concord, died on Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at his home.

Mert had been employed at the Wisconsin Masonic Home in Dousman until his retirement. He was a member of the Concord senior group, Concord Historical Society, Concord United Methodist Church and the church board.

Genevieve Weier

LAKE MILLS - Genevieve Weier, 92, of Lake Mills, died on Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at her home.

She was born on Nov. 1, 1914, in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late James and Anna (Stuha) Svidron. Genevieve married Walter F. Weier Sr. on May 9, 1939, in Chicago. He died on June 8, 1979.

Genevieve and Walter moved to Lake Mills in 1969 from Chicago. During her working years she was employed at Midwest Spring in Chicago, Hamlin Inc. in Lake Mills, and Fisher Barton in Watertown.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Lake Mills American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed helping with and playing bingo at Willowbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and also at Brook Gardens.

Survivors include two sons, Walter Jr. “Wally” of Lake Mills and Robert (Nancy) of Burbank, Ill.; five grandchildren, Genevieve “Genie” (Dwain) Trewyn of Lake Mills, Karen (John) Noltner of Bloomington, Minn., Tracy (Eric) Erickson of Cambridge, Ruby Ann (Nick) Wilson of Lockport, Ill., and Robert Jr. of Burbank; 10 great-grandchildren, Cody, Connor, Cassiday, and Callan Wilson, Megan, Taylor, and Lauren Trewyn, Jordan and Brenna Noltner, and Emma Erickson; one brother, John Svidron of Justice, Ill.; two sisters, Mary Rosa of Dyer, Ind., and Rosie (Wayne) Whitaker of Cedar Springs, Mich.; other relatives and friends.

Also preceding in death were three brothers, Charlie, Joseph, and Jimmy Svidron; one sister, Ann, and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Weier.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Robert Hughes as celebrant. Burial will be in Rock Lake Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Claussen Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. on Friday at the church until the time of service.

If desired, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

George Smith Jr.

George H. Smith Jr., 59, of Watertown, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at his home.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Johnson of St. John's Lutheran Church in Johnson Creek officiating.

Family and friends may call to pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials would be appreciated to the family.

George was born on June 18, 1948, in Watertown, son of George H. Smith Sr. and the late Rita Novotny. On Dec. 26, 1982, he married Linda Klatt in their home.

George was member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Johnson Creek, where he had been a member of the church choir for a number of years. He served in the United States Navy from February 1969 to August 1970 and was also very active in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps for 10 years, beginning as an instructor and later promoted through the ranks to lieutenant commander. He was a member of the Johnson Creek American Legion Post No. 305. He was also a Vietnam Veterans Chapter 5 charter member in Madison.

George worked for the Wisconsin Bell telephone company as a repair technician for most of his working life. He loved photography ever since he was in high school and continued to do it even after his retirement from Wisconsin Bell, working as a freelance photographer for the Watertown Daily Times.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Smith of Watertown; four children, Carrie (Jim) Oldenhoff of Wisconsin Dells, George (Jolene) Smith III of West Allis, Duane (Valerie) Smith of Crystal River, Fla., and Jenny (Dan) Collins of Jefferson; his father, George Smith Sr. of Oconomowoc; 15 grandchildren; three sisters, Juanita Dubry, Cynthia Irish and Andrea (Mike) Degner; his mother-in-law, Bernice “Mah” Klatt; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Harold Klatt.

Alice Brosseau

LAKE MILLS - Alice “Merice” Brosseau, 90, of Lake Mills, died on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at Willowbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lake Mills.

Merice was born on Dec. 1, 1916, daughter of Alfred and Ruth Danielson Blid in Hallock, Minn. (in the Red River Valley). Merice came from a large family of Swedish immigrant pioneers who were the first farmers and businessmen in that area of Minnesota. Her father, Alfred Blid, owned the first Buick dealership in northern Minnesota and enjoyed hunting and fishing with the Mayo brothers, who were the original founders of the famous Mayo Clinic.

Merice graduated from Hallock High School in 1935 and was employed by Peter-son's Hotel and Pharmacy as well as the Clay Pharmacy in Hallock. She married John Burton “Burt” Brosseau on Oct. 12, 1941, in Argyle, Minn. They were married nearly 66 years. She was a very devoted mother to their four children.

Over the years, Merice was very active in church and civic activities including the Women's Club, Christian Mothers, The Newcomers Club, PTA, and Boy Scouts. She served as a Sunday school teacher and worked with handicapped children and the elderly. For many years she volunteered at Willowbrook and Countryside.

She and Burt lived in Fosston, Minn., Bemidji, Minn., Thief River Falls, Minn., Duluth, Minn. and Richfield, Minn.; Chicago, Ill.; and Brown Deer, before settling in Lake Mills in 1970 when Burt purchased the Ford dealership which he owned and operated for 11 years before retiring. For several years they divided their time between various spots in Florida, Weslaco, Texas, and Lake Mills before selling their homes and moving into the Trinity Pines community.

Merice enjoyed crafts, golf, and bridge. She was an excellent cook. Over the last several years she was a resident in the Willowbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Helen Burns; and her devoted husband, Burt, who has called her to be with him just two short months after his own passing; their daughter, Barbara Bishop; their son, Jon; and their grandson, Todd Elowson.

She is survived by their two sons, Gregory (Suzanne) of Kurtistown, Hawaii, and Stephen (Tina) of Mesquite, Texas; six grandchildren, Stephanie Brosseau, Krista Balen, Ashley Brosseau, Matthew Brosseau, Nicholas Brosseau, and Stephen Brosseau; two great-grandsons, Austin and Alex; a sister-in-law, Joyce Kurz; several cousins, nieces, and nephews and many friends.

A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Mills with Father Robert Hughes as celebrant. Burial will be held in Park Hill Cemetery, Duluth, on Friday.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. Thursday at the church until the time of the service.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association and the Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc.
