Local resident completes youth leadership program

QUANTICO, Va. - Lydia F. Roets of Watertown, Wis., has completed the 10th session of the FBI National Academy Associates Youth Leadership Program.
Roets was selected for the John Wagner Award for the attendee who demonstrated the attributes of leadership and demeanor that the program exemplifies. She also came in first for the women completing the United States Marine Corps endurance/stamina course.
She was awarded a $500 certificate of deposit for college and her name is on a plaque at Quantico for the 10th session of the FBIYLP.
The Youth Leadership Program is sponsored by the FBINAA Inc., the professional association of graduates of the FBI National Academy for state and local law enforcement officials.
Applicants must be nominated by local chapters of the FBINAA and demonstrate leadership and excellent character. Applicants must also submit an essay, pass an oral interview and have above average grades to be eligible to attend.
This year 50 students attended from each domestic chapter of the association and three international students representing Canada, Australia and the Netherlands attended the program.
The curriculum includes classes in goal setting, leadership, religion, culture and comparative ideology, ethical decision making, integrity, accountability, physical training, a tour of FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and a meeting with the leadership of the FBI.
Instructors, who also serve as counselors, are volunteer members of the FBINAA and special agents that teach at the FBI Academy. Graduates are eligible to become members of the FBINAA Youth Leadership Program Graduates Association.
