SULLIVAN - The daughter of a Sullivan couple, Megan Shea, is one of several former University of Wisconsin-Platteville industrial engineering senior design students working on a project involving the design and sizing of a knee brace product.
The knee brace product is a one size, adjustable knee support with three adjustable straps. At the time of the project, Mueller Sports Medicine had no anthropometric data on its knee brace product for consumers. This data is important for designing and sizing knee braces.
The senior design team collected data for Mueller Sports Medicine focusing on anthropometric data of populations of 40 years and above. This was a difficult population sample for Mueller Sports Medicine to conduct research on in previous attempts.
The students created a standardized procedure for collecting the data that ensured accuracy and consistency among participants. Students surveyed family and friends as well as UW-P faculty. UW-P industrial engineering faculty provided extra credit to students who collected data from their parents or relatives.
Shea is the daughter of Jack and Luann Shea of Sullivan. She graduated May 12 from UW-P with a degree in industrial engineering with an emphasis in management and a minor in business administration.
