The annual Gateway to the Weekend series begins this Friday with one of Watertown's own artists, John Eske and the Screaming Nighthawks.
The event will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on South Fourth Street between Main and Market streets. Chalet Restaurant will provide sandwiches.
This is the third year of the summer event project, which is scheduled for every Friday night through July and attracts hundreds to the downtown area to enjoy an evening of free entertainment and family fun, said Susan Dascenzo, director of the Watertown Main Street Program.
Those at the event can sign up for the end of the year raffle, which features a queen-sized mattress from Symbol Mattress, a day at the spa from Domani Salon and Spa and a steak dinner for four from Glenn's Market and Catering. Other raffle prizes and activities for the children will also be available.
Several merchants will participate in a “Moonlight Madness” sale to give visitors an opportunity to shop.
The Gateway program is possible through the underwriting of local community sponsors that include the Watertown Tourism Council, Watertown Daily Times, Budweiser and River City Distributing, AT&T, Watertown Chamber of Commerce, Symbol Mattress, Glenn's Market and Catering Inc., We Energies, Generation Jewelers, Jerry Hepp Excavating Inc., Bradow Jewelers, Chickens Unlimited and Sandra D's Bridal Boutique.
