WHS students get private scholarships

A number of Watertown High School seniors have received private scholarships in addition to those who received the local awards at a program Sunday at Watertown High School.
Samantha Christian and Kelly McGorey each received Trustees distinguished scholarship from St. Norbert College. This scholarship is valued at $44,000 over four years.
Christian is the daughter of John and Carol Christian. She has been active in International Club, basketball, tennis, Marine Biology trip, church activities, mentoring, Rotary student and received the USAA National Honor Roll, Scholar and Leadership Merit Award. She is a member of the National Honor Society.
She plans to major in education/photojournalism.
McGorey is the daughter of Thomas and Janice McGorey. She has been involved in tennis, basketball, soccer, show choir, caroling, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Drama Club and church activities.
She has been on the high honor roll for four years and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Jesse Koehler, valedictorian of this year's graduating class, received the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship as an all-state scholar. This award is valued at $1,500 and can be renewed three times. He also received the Puelicher Memorial Scholarship valued at $3,000, and this award can also be renewed three times.
Christopher Flood is a recipient of a McKay Nursery Company scholarship in the amount of $2,000.
Gregg Peirick received the Freddy Gage Jr. memorial short course scholarship from University of Wisconsin-Madison, valued at $1,500.
Holly Schult received the Wisconsin American Legion test award of $500 and the Vilas Equity Scholarship from UW-Madison, valued at $400.
Erin Edington received a $500 Euterpe Music Club award.
Kelsey Roets received an alumni scholarship and a dean's scholarship from Ripon College.
Kaitryn Thoma received the Badger Girls State and the Founder's scholarship, both from Ripon College.
Kallie Henze received the Wisconsin Energy Corp. Daughters and Sons Scholarship.
Shawn Kressin received the Naber Scholarship from Marian College.
