Corrections on lawsuit story

A story Thursday about a discrimination suit filed against the city of Watertown by former employee Judy Herzog contained several errors.

Some months after Herzog was terminated from the water department, an opening occurred in the city clerk's office, not back at the water department. Handwritten notes about the various candidates for that position, including Herzog, were written on the applications by city Clerk Mike Hoppenrath, who was conducting the interviews for his department, not by Lange.

At one point in the story mention was made that an assistant manager position at the water department needed to be able to climb water towers to change light bulbs. While that is a requirement, it was one of many requirements the city said it used in determining who should be the new assistant manager.

The next step in the process will be the city's response to the suit.
