Watertown to hold registration for kindergarten, preschool

Watertown Unified School District will be holding 5-year-old kindergarten registration and 4-year-old preschool registration for the 2007-08 school year on Monday, Feb. 19; Tuesday, Feb. 20; and Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Educational Service Center, 111 Dodge St. At this time the school district needs to know the names and addresses of children who will be entering either the 5-year-old kindergarten or the Water-town 4 Kids 4-year-old preschool this fall.

A preregistration form must be filled out and returned to any of the elementary school offices or the ESC by Friday. If parents submitted this form in response to an earlier request for information in December, it does not need to be re-sent. Upon receiving the pre-registration form, the district will mail additional information and forms that will need to be completed and brought to one of the three registration days.

Parents should also bring a copy of their child's birth certificate or baptismal record to registration. To be eligible for 5-year-old kindergarten, a child must be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2007, and the child must be immunized against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, and hepatitis B. The child must be immunized against varicella (chicken pox) if he/she has not had the disease. These immunizations must be up to date by the time the child begins classes in fall.

Children registering for the Watertown 4 Kids 4-year-old preschool program must also have an immunization record available at registration. More information about immunizations needed for 4-year-olds will be available in the informational packet sent to homes after preregistration. Parents may also check with local doctors or the city health department for immunization requirements for 4-year-olds.

For more information, call the ESC at 262-1460. Also, parents may pick up registration information the week of registration at the ESC. Space in the 4-year-old preschool program is limited, so registration will be held on a first come, first served basis.
