JEFFERSON (AP) - Officials at St. Coletta of Wisconsin have decided to sell some of the facility's land.
The St. Coletta board of directors voted to formally list the campus property with a commercial broker earlier this month, St. Coletta's vice president of development, Andrea Speth, said Monday.
The decision to list the property came after St. Coletta rejected an evangelical organization's unsolicited offer to buy the property.
New Tribes Mission, based in Sanford, Fla., proposed redeveloping the campus' main area, covering 175 to 200 acres, including most of the primary buildings.
St. Coletta's provides vocational, educational and residential support for adults with developmental and other disabilities. Regardless of whether the property is sold, St. Coletta will continue to provide that support, Speth said.
Currently, 66 clients live on the main campus in buildings New Tribes was considering buying, Speth said.
The property is listed with MLG Commercial of Brookfield, but no price has been set yet. St. Coletta owns 170 acres assessed at $883,700 with a fair-market value of $1,092,200, according to the Jefferson County treasurer's office. The facility also owns another 565 acres that are exempt from taxes because of the group's religious affiliation.
